8/14/26 : Phillies sign RHP Casey Lawrence to minor league contract
Thirty-eight year old RHP Casey Lawrence has been signed by the Phillies to a minor league contract and will eventually be assigned to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs as a starting pitcher.
Lawrence was released by the Seattle Mariners on 8/8/26 - he had been pitching for their triple A affiliate Tacoma where he made 26 starts (131.2 IP) posting a 4.37 ERA with 79 K’s and 19 walks.
He’s a graduate of Albright College and was originally signed by the Toronto Blue Jays on 6/17/10 - has made 65 major league appearances (2017, 2018, 2023, 2024, 2025) with all but two being in relief accumulating 141.2 IP for Toronto, Seattle and St Louis.
The majority of his career has been spent in the minors where he’s made 343 appearances (313 starts) posting a 4.11 ERA in 1,842 IP. Lawrence is a strike-thrower who has a strong 1.73 BB/9 ratio over his minor league career. He’s also pitched in Japan for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp (2019).
He’s known for having a high baseball IQ with strong command of his pitches - low 90’s sinker & fastball, cutter, slider and changeup who’s capable of eating up multiple innings.
