Player Development Center Training - Carpenter Complex :

Live bullpen sessions today for seven new right handed pitchers, we got to watch them each throw on Schmidt Field.  Cam Brown, Brandon Beckel, Casey Steward, Hunter Loyd, Chase Hopewell, Brayden Tucker and Paxton Thompson.  Really liked what we saw from Cam Brown, little movement in a compact delivery and looked like mid nineties velocity, was down in the zone and ball was jumping out of the hand, great first impression!  Brandon Beckel was consistently on the edge of the plate glove side with vertical bite on what looked like a slider, not sure if the ABS (automated balls and strikes) would call those strikes but he was sure peppering that area today, bat breakers.  Hunter Loyd has a unique delivery where the ball is hidden till the last moment, looked like it was coming out behind his back, sort of reminded me how Konnor Ash hid the baseball the first time I saw him throw.  Chase Hopewell is tall and lanky with an over the top delivery, tucks his glove behind a big leg tuck - for those that can remember way back in the day how Ron Reed used to delivery pitches it’s akin to it. Brayden Tucker has a thick body with big legs, threw a lot of breaking pitches today it seemed, one had downward bite, looked like a splitter.

Saw Andrew Painter at the Complex today, he’s grown a beard, not Brandon Marsh like but nonetheless a full beard 🧔‍♂️.
