8/16/22 :  Minor League Roster Moves 🧐

With the end of the of the 2022 minor league season somewhat on the horizon for the full season squads ( 4 weeks for Clearwater/Jersey Shore - season ends 9/11 ), five weeks for Reading ( season ends 9/18 ) and 6 1/2 weeks for Lehigh Valley ( season ends 9/28 ) some pitchers have reached pre-determined innings limits and either have or soon will be excluded from game action.  Others will be moved up notches or introduced back into the mix on rehab assignments.  That means some roster shuffling is in order.  Fortunately with the introduction of larger rosters last season there are multiple options to conclude the season.

Adjusted rotations :

Lehigh Valley:

LH Michael Plassmeyer

LH Kent Emmanuel

LH Christopher Sanchez

RH Colton Eastman

LH Bailey Falter will start for the Phillies on Saturday but likely will be returned to LHV thereafter - however he will remain “on-call” for the big club.  This week the Iron Pigs will continue to fill at least one of the six games in the series with an “Opener” - perhaps newly promoted LH Erik Miller will fill the void.  He’s been in that role or has been used as a multi inning reliever for Reading this season continuing to do weight training and recovery exercises between appearances designed to maintain shoulder strength.

Reading :

RH Noah Skirrow

LH Ethan Lindow

RH Griff McGarry

RH Mick Abel

RH Andrew Painter

Opener - RH Mike Adams or RH Aidan Anderson have been filling the role

Mick Abel & Andrew Painter move up from Jersey Shore to finish the season.  Innings targets for each have been slightly extended with somewhere between 100 to 110 being the goal.  Mick has logged 85 innings to date and Andrew is at 75.

Jersey Shore :

RH Matt Russell

RH Dominic Pipkin

RH Kyle Glogoski

LH Rafael Marcano

RH Carlo Reyes

LH Josh Hendrickson - rehab

Carlo Reyes will pop into the rotation to finish the season as he did last season, he’s capable of extending to multiple innings but likely will be utilized as more of an opener going two or three innings over the next four weeks.  Josh Hendrickson will move up from Clearwater to continue his rehab work and likely will make a couple starts before possibly being activated by Reading during the final weeks in September.

Clearwater :

RH Starlyn Castillo

LH Jordi Martinez

LH Jordan Fowler

RH Gunner Mayer

RH Victor Vargas - rehab

Opener - LH Matt Osterberg has been pitching bulk innings in relief and could fill the role as opener.

Victor Vargas will move up this week from the FCL Phillies to continue his rehab assignment and will make at least a couple starts for the Threshers.  LH Gabriel Cotto, RH Eiberson Castellano & RH Jean Cabrera appear to have reached innings limits and will finish the season on the development list doing strength training work and side work.  With multiple pitchers being selected in the draft as well as being signed as non-drafted free agents and with the FCL league concluding play next Tuesday we may see a few names added to the Threshers roster to finish the year.

Position Players :

There will likely be some promotions from Reading to Lehigh Valley after their season concludes on 9/18 to get a taste of AAA level play and perhaps an infielder moves up from Clearwater to Jersey Shore at some point but for the most part I think the current rosters remain as is to finish the year, just to peak curiosity there’s some possible adds to Clearwater once the FCL season concludes.

Fall Instructs  :

Plans are being discussed as to dates and invitees - last year it was a four week camp.  It’s highly probable that all of the 2022 draftees and non-drafted free agents are included.  Also am anxious to see rehab players such as RHP Chase Antle, RHP Tyler Phillips & LHP Spencer Van Scoyoc potentially return to action.  Management also is determining what players will be asked to participate in the Arizona Fall League and winter league assignments.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball
