Offensive Standouts :


Boston :


Rafael Devers had three hits including a home run, he drove in three runs. Mitch Moreland had two hits and Jackie Bradley Jr had a double and two RBIs. Alex Verdugo walked twice and doubled.


Philadelphia :


The Phillies walked six times but were held to just three hits.


Pitching Performances :


Boston relievers ( Austin Brice, Ryan Weber, Matt Barnes and Brandon Workman ) allowed just one hit and two walks over 5 2/3 innings of work.

Cardinals 9 ( 6-6 ) Cubs 3 ( 15-8 ) - Game One - Seven Innings


The Cardinals played their 981st game at Wrigley Field. Only twice before yesterday had their cleanup hitter hit a grand slam in 1st inning. Jim Bortomley in 1923 and Ken Boyer in 1961.


Offensive Standouts :


St. Louis :


Matt Carpenter hit a first inning grand slam home run. Tommy Edman had three hits, Brad Miller and Kolton Wong had two hits apiece.


Chicago :


Ian Happ and Josh Phegley each homered.

Cubs 4 ( 16-8 ) Cardinals 2 ( 6-7 ) - Game Two - Seven Innings


Offensive Standouts :


Chicago :


David Bote delivered a two run single in the top of the seventh inning to score what would be the game winning runs. Victor Caratini had the other two RBIs.


Pitching Performances :


The Cubs Adbert Alzolay went five innings ( 1 unearned runs, 2 H, 1 BB, 6 K’s ) ... Craig Kimbrel struck out the side in the seventh inning for his first save. The Cardinals were held to just three hits.

Blue Jays 5 ( 10-11 ) Orioles 2 ( 12-12 )


Offensive Standouts :


Toronto :


Randal Grichuk hit two home runs and drove in three. Lourdes Gurriel Jr, Brandon Drury and Santiago Espinal each had two hits.


Baltimore :


Four Orioles had two hit games : Hanser Alberto, Dwight Smith, Pat Valaika and Cedric Mullins. Anthony Santander doubled and walked twice.


Pitching Performances :


Toronto’s Tanner Roark went five innings ( 2 R - 1 earned, 9 H, 1 BB, 5 K’s ). Ryan Borucki ( 1 1/3 IP ), Thomas Hatch ( 1 2/3 IP ) and Rafael Dolis ( 1 IP ) tossed scoreless baseball behind him.


Notes :


Chance Sisco became the first Orioles catcher to leadoff a game since Floyd Rayford did it in 1985.

Royals 4 ( 10-14 ) Reds 0 ( 9-12 ) - Game One - Seven Innings


Offensive Standouts :


Kansas City :


Whit Merrifield and Jorge Soler each had two hits. Ryan O’Hearn had two RBIs.


Cincinnati :


The team was held to three hits ... Jesse Winker drew three walks.


Pitching Performances :


The Royals Brad Keller went 6 2/3 innings allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out five to up his record to 3-0. Trevor Rosenthal recorded the last out of the game, a strikeout for his sixth save. Rosenthal came in with the bases loaded.

Reds 5 ( 10-12 ) Royals 0 ( 10-15 ) - Game Two - Seven Innings


Offensive Standouts :


Cincinnati :


The Reds hit four home runs ( Nick Castellanos, Jesse Winker, Eugenio Suarez and Curt Casali ). Suarez and Castellanos each had two hits.


Pitching Performances :


Cincinnati’s Trevor Bauer tossed a complete game shutout ( 1 H, 3 BB, 9 K’s ). The lone hit he allowed was in the fifth inning.

Offensive Standouts :


Cleveland :


Carlos Santana hit a three run home run and Domingo Santana doubled and drove in three runs.


Pittsburgh :


Jacob Stallings had two of the team’s five hits.


Pitching Performances :


Cleveland’s Aaron Civale tossed a complete game ( 9 IP, 1 R, 5 H, 0 BB, 6 K’s )

Tampa :


Ji-Man Choi and Mike Zunino each homered and Willy Adames had two hits.


New York :


Luke Voigt homered and walked twice.

Tampa’s Tyler Glasnow went 5 2/3 innings ( 2 R, 2 H, 3 BB, 8 K’s ) and five relievers pitched shutout two hit baseball the balance of the game.


New York’s Gerrit Cole went six innings ( 2 R, 6 H, 1 BB, 10 K’s )

Michael Conforto hit a two run home run in the top of the ninth inning. Brandon Nimmo, Dominic Smith and Luis Guillorme each had two hits.

Pitching Performances :


New York’s Jacob deGrom tossed six scoreless frames ( 4 H, 0 BB, 7 K’s ). Edwin Diaz blew the save in the eighth inning but was credited with the win.


Miami’s Pablo Lopez went 6 1/3 innings ( 2 R, 7 H, 1 BB, 5 K’s )

The White Sox bullpen tossed 4 2/3 innings of hitless and scoreless baseball allowing just one walk.

Offensive Standouts :


Milwaukee :


The Brewers hit four home runs ( Ryan Braun, Christian Yelich, Avisail Garcia and Keston Hiura ). Hiura had three hits and Braun, Yelich and Garcia each had two hits ... Garcia had four RBIs.


Minnesota :


Marwin Gonzalez, Miguel Sano and Ildemaro Vargas each had two hits. Gonzalez homered.


Pitching Performances :


Milwaukee’s Brett Anderson went six innings ( 1 R, 5 H, 0 BB, 5 K’s ) for his first win of the season.

Offensive Standouts :


Houston :


Kyle Tucker had a career game ... he went 4 for 5 with two triples, a home run and four RBIs and scored three runs 😳. Carlos Correa had three hits including a home run. George Springer, Jose Altuve, Abraham Toro, Taylor Jones and Martin Maldonado each had two hits. Maldonado and Springer each hit home runs.


Colorado :


Matt Kemp, Raimel Tapia and Chris Owings each had two hits.


Pitching Performances :


Houston Lefty Framber Lopez went 7 1/3 innings ( 3 R - 1 earned, 7 H, 1 BB, 5 K’s ) for the win.

Offensive Standouts :


San Diego :


Manny Machado hit a grand slam home run in the bottom of the tenth inning for the walk off win. Fernando Tatis Jr and Jake Cronenworth each had two hits. Machado also had two knocks in the contest. Tatis Jr and Jurickson Profar each homered.


Texas :


Rougned Odor had two hits including a home run. Joey Gallo hit his 7th home run of the season.


Pitching Performances :


San Diego’s Chris Paddack went six innings ( 1 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 5 K’s )


Lance Lynn went seven innings ( 2 R, 8 H, 0 BB, 6 K’s ) for the Rangers.

Mark Canha hit a two run home run. Robbie Grossman doubled, walked twice and had two RBIs.

Oakland’s Jesus Luzardo went 6 1/3 innings ( 0 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 7 K’s ) for his second win. Liam Hendriks pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 8th save.

Seattle’s Taijuan Walker went seven innings ( 3 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 8 K’s ) for his second win.

Pitching Performances :
