Dominican Summer League Playoffs : QuarterFinals
Phillies White 2 Angels 0 (Phillies win the best of three series 2-1)
I will include in tonight’s roundup as well but felt a special standalone article was warranted. Just watched the deciding game of the quarter final DSL playoff series between Phillies White and the Angels. Was really fun to watch and wanted to share - really good stuff. With today’s win the Phillies White team advances to the semi final round of the playoffs.
Summary :
Yemil Rosario hit a two run home run in the fourth inning.
Notes :
It’s really fun to watch the DSL games, the players are very animated and it’s obvious they are having a great deal of fun playing but also are very passionate about competing. Eduardo Tait has his own version of the “Soto Shuffle” when he takes pitches. The infielders often gather on or around the mound for high fives before and during innings to chat up the pitcher after outs are recorded and when big outs are made the celebrations are emotional and often robust, Pedro Reyes got out of a two men on, no out jam in the seventh and when he did motioned in exuberance and clapped repeatedly walking off the hill. If ya are an “old school” baseball philosopher that believes emotions must remain in check and expressions stoic then this isn’t the brand of baseball for you to watch but to this old fan it’s exciting, fun, electric and sincere, it’s everything the game should be - it’s pure baseball joy. I’ve often said I’d like to go watch a week or so at the Dominican Academy - maybe one day that will happen - just really good stuff.
On the Hill :
Starter Wilmer Blanco was excellent - he pitched six innings plus two batters and didn’t yield a hit till the first batter in the seventh inning singled, his fastball was consistently 93 to 94 mph - touched 95, curve and I think a change up as secondaries - final line - six innings, no runs, one hit, two walks, five strikeouts. Pedro Reyes pitched out of a two man on, no out jam in the seventh stranding both inherited runners, one inning pitched, no runs, hits or walks, one strikeout. Juan Amarante spun curve ball after curve ball to pitch two scoreless frames and close out the win, two innings, no runs, one hit, no walks, three strikeouts.
At the Bat :
Eduardo Tait doubled, Yemil Rosario hit a two run home run.
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
