8/27/23 : Week Twenty-One Minor League Review (8/21 to 8/27)

The seven teams went 12-18 in regular season games for the week. They are a cumulative 357-218 in the regular season for a winning percentage of .554 . The four affiliates participating in split seasons are 115-95 (.548) in the second half.  The DSL Phillies White team won their quarter final playoff series against the Angels two games to one and lost their opening game in the semi finals to the Pirates Gold team. Eduardo Tait has hit five doubles in the four playoff games to date.


Rough week for three of the full season clubs as only Reading had a winning record.  Lehigh Valley lost six of seven and falls to two and a half games back of the International League second half leader.  Jersey Shore is now two behind Brooklyn for the South Atlantic League North second half division title with two weeks to play.  Clearwater fell to third place in the Florida State League West Division second half chase five games behind Lakeland, the Threshers have already qualified for the playoff by winning the first half position.  Reading pulls to within two off the pace for an Eastern League second half playoff berth for the Northeast division.


Individually Darick Hall had a big week for Lehigh Valley clubbing two doubles and four home runs.  Leandro Pineda  had a standout week for Jersey Shore going 8 for 19 (.421) with five RBIs and two walks and a .476 OBP.  Justin Crawford continued to stroke the baseball hitting .385 for the week with five runs scored.  Mick Abel pitched seven innings in his start for Reading this week allowing just one run, best outing of the season for the young man.  David Parkinson (Reading) and Rafael Marcano (Jersey Shore) both pitched gems on Sunday with Parkinson going six innings (no runs) and Marcano seven innings (one run).  For Clearwater Jonathan Petit and Braeden Fausnaught each pitched six innings in their outings allowing no earned runs.

Wednesday Game Two : Rafael Marchan  had three hits (two singles and double).  Jordan Qsar singled and hit a two run home run.  Simon Muzziotti and Weston Wilson had two hits, Kody Clemens walked three times.  Darick Hall hit a three run home run.


Friday : Dustin Peterson hit two home runs, Rafael Marchan doubled.


Saturday Game One : Darick Hall had three hits (single and two home runs).  Kody Clemens had two hits (single & home run).


Saturday Game Two : Drew Ellis had two hits (single & HR), Dustin Peterson and Cal Stevenson homered.

Wednesday Game One : Nick Nelson pitched six innings plus three batters, three runs, seven hits, three walks, four strikeouts.  Tyler McKay pitched an inning plus - one unearned run, one hit, three walks - one intentional.


Wednesday Game Two : Connor Brogdon opened and pitched two perfect innings, three strikeouts.  Brett Schulze pitched an inning, no runs, one hit, one strikeout.  Braden Zarbnisky pitched two innings, no runs, two hits.  Luis Ortiz finished it, two innings, no runs or hits, one walk.


Friday : Tyler Phillips went one and two third innings, five runs - four earned, five hits, two walks, one strikeout.  Jeremy Walker went an inning and a third, no runs, two hits, no walks, two strikeouts.  Brett Schulze went two innings, no runs or hits, three walks, two strikeouts.  Ben Bowden pitched a perfect inning, two strikeouts.  Taylor Lehman pitched a perfect inning, two strikeouts. Yunior Marte pitched a perfect frame.  Tyler McKay pitched 2/3 of an inning, one run, one hit, two walks and a hit batter.


Saturday Game One : Shaun Anderson went 2/3 of an inning, seven runs on eight hits.  Braden Zarbnisky pitched two and a third innings, no runs, no hits, no walks, two strikeouts.  Connor Brogdon pitched one and a third, no runs, one hit, three walks, one strikeout.  Taylor Lehman pitched two thirds of an inning, no runs or hits, one walk.  Catcher Vito Friscia pitched the sixth inning, no runs, one hit, one strikeout.


Saturday Game Two : Griff McGarry went one and two third innings, five runs, one hit, five walks, three strikeouts.  Noah Skirrow went four and a third innings, one run, eight hits, four walks, two strikeouts.

Thursday : Zach Haake went five innings plus two batters, one run, two hits, no walks, five strikeouts.  Dominic Pipkin pitched one and two thirds innings, one run on two hits, one of two inherited runners scored.  Jordi Martinez retired the only batter he faced, stranded an inherited runner.  Orion Kerkering pitched the 8th inning, no runs, no hits, two walks, two strikeouts.  Tommy McCollum finished it, one inning, no runs, one hit, one walk, two strikeouts.


Friday : Matt Osterberg was excellent - five and one third innings plus two batters, one run, six hits, no walks, eight strikeouts.  Adam Leverett pitched one and two third innings, no runs, one hit, two walks, two strikeouts - one of two inherited runners scored. Andrew Baker pitched an inning, no runs or hits, one walk, one strikeout.  Keylan Killgore pitched an inning and two third innings,  no runs, hits or walks, two strikeouts.  Carlos Francisco closed out the win, one and a third innings, no runs, no hits, one intentional walk, three strikeouts.

Friday : Danyony Pulido started and pitched three and one third innings, five runs - four earned, five hits, three walks and two strikeouts.  Angel Liranzo pitched an inning, no runs, three hits, one walk, two strikeouts - one inherited runner scored.  Adilson Peralta went three and two thirds innings, no runs, three hits, no walks, two strikeouts - stranded three inherited runners.  John Sosa pitched a scoreless ninth inning, one hit allowed.


Saturday : Starter Wilmer Blanco was excellent - he pitched six innings plus two batters and didn’t yield a hit till the first batter in the seventh inning singled, his fastball was consistently 93 to 94 mph - touched 95, curve and I think a change up as secondaries - final line - six innings, no runs, one hit, two walks, five strikeouts.  Pedro Reyes pitched out of a two man on, no out jam in the seventh stranding both inherited runners, one inning pitched, no runs, hits or walks, one strikeout. Juan Amarante spun curve ball after curve ball to pitch two scoreless frames and close out the win, two innings, no runs, one hit, no walks, three strikeouts.


Sunday : Eighteen year old Alexis De La Cruz pitched very well going five innings, one run, no hits, three walks and three strikeouts - fastball sat in the 91 to 93 mph range with a slurve and change up as secondaries.  Josbel Garcia pitched two and one third innings, two runs, two hits, no walks, three strikeouts.  Claudio Gatier pitched an inning, no runs, one hit, two strikeouts. Luis Avila pitched two thirds of an inning, one strikeout.
