A shout out to the grounds crew, long after the game was done today the crew was still at work, patching holes on the mound and in the batters boxes, dragging the field, watering it down and placing the tarps on for the next day’s events, then a tour of the outfield to check the fences and warning tracks before calling it a day.  Four fields each day over and again - kudos.

Arizona Fall League :

Team assignments were announced today, this year the Phillies contingent will play with the Scottsdale Scorpions franchise joining the LA Angels, SF Giants, STL Cardinals and Washington Nationals as club mates.  Last year the Phillies were assigned to the Surprise Saguaros.  The league will begin play on October 2nd and conclude with the AFL Championship game on November 11th.  The Scorpions play their home games in Scottsdale Stadium.  Each team is slated to play 30 games, this season is the 30th anniversary of the league.

Major League Data Notes :

Was curious regarding the impact of the “non-shift” rule thus far in the Major Leagues. A quick comparison of 2023 vs 2022 MLB data to date reflects the following - keep in mind that the 2023 hits total includes some what ya might consider “suspect” official scoring giving the benefit of the doubt to the offense rather than scoring errors.

Total Hits : 2023 per game average of 16.8 vs 2022 per game average of 16.3 - a .44 increase

Singles : 2023 per game average of 10.7 vs 2022 per game average of 10.6 - a .06 increase

Doubles : 2023 per game average of 3.4 vs 2022 per game average of 3.3 - a .14 increase

Triples : 2023 per game average of 0.3 vs 2022 per game average of 0.3 - a .02 increase

Home Runs : 2023 per game average of 2.4 vs 2022 per game average of 2.1 - a .22 increase

Runs Per Game : 2023 per game average of 9.2 vs 2022 per game average of 8.6 - a .60 increase

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
