8/4/23 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) -  Buffalo 7 (19-11, 53-52) Lehigh Valley 6 (18-12, 54-49)

Allentown, PA - Coca-Cola Park


Summary :


Buffalo scored a first inning run on two doubles.  They scored five runs in the second including three on a home run by Addison Barger.


Cal Stevenson homered in the third inning.   Scott Kingery singled, Kody Clemens walked, a wild pitch moved them up.  A sac fly by Simon Muzziotti scored a run. Darick Hall walked.  Aramis Garcia hit a three run home run.


Rafael Lantigua homered for Buffalo in the fourth inning.


Jordan Qsar walked in the 6th, stole second went to third on a passed ball and scored on a sac fly by Cal Stevenson.


On the Hill :


Noah Skirrow pitched three innings, six runs, seven hits, four walks, three strikeouts. Brett Schulze went two innings, one run, two hits, two walks, three strikeouts.  Taylor Lehman pitched a perfect inning, two strikeouts.  Tyler McKay pitched two perfect innings, two strikeouts.  Andrew Bellatti pitched a scoreless ninth, one walk, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Cal Stevenson and Aramis Garcia each hit home runs.

Drew Hutchison spun an absolute gem on Thursday night, going a season high eight innings for the win. Summary :


Jhailyn Ortiz walked and Matt Kroon singled in the first inning, Ethan Wilson singled to score a run.


Casey Martin homered in the fourth inning.


Madison Stokes singled in the fifth inning and scored on a double by Oliver Dunn. Dunn scored on a single by Matt Kroon. Ethan Wilson singled and Casey Martin followed with a single to score another run.


Oliver Dunn homered in the seventh inning.


On the Hill :


Mick Abel went five and a third innings, no runs, five hits, three walks, six strikeouts - his fastball was 97 to 100 mph early, ticked below that later but had a really good sweeping like curve and sequenced pitches really well. Tristan Garnett made his Reading debut by stranding two runners in the sixth with two strikeouts, outstanding change up, he went one and two third perfect innings - four strikeouts 👏.   Tommy McCollum pitched a perfect eighth inning, one strikeout.  Keylan Killgore closed out the shutout with an inning of work, one hit, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Matt Kroon had a night going four for four with three singles and a double. Oliver Dunn, Ethan Wilson and Casey Martin each had two hits.  Dunn doubled and homered and Martin homered.

Matt Kroon made a diving catch on a sinking liner in the gap in the sixth inning.

His two home runs matched a season and career-high, with the other coming June 16 vs Hartford.  He also had three extra-base hits, which matched a season and career best. The prior coming July 14 against Portland. Dunn set a career high with five RBI Wednesday as well. That matched a season-high for RBI in a game by an R-Phils player. Summary :


Drake Osborn homered for Brooklyn in the fifth inning.  A double and single scored another run.


Anthony Quirion hit a two run home run in the bottom of the fifth scoring Jared Carr (singled) in front of himself.  Wilfredo Flores and Nick Ward singled, Marcus Lee Sang tripled to score them both and crossed the plate himself on a throwing error.


Stanley Consuegra homered for Brooklyn in the sixth inning.


Nick Ward walked in the seventh and scored on Marcus Lee Sang’s second triple of the game.


On the Hill :


Matt Osterberg delivered another good outing, five and two third innings, three runs, seven hits, no walks, six strikeouts. Carlos Betancourt retired the only batter he faced. Jason Ruffcorn and Andrew Walling each pitched perfect innings. Konnor Ash pitched a scoreless ninth, one walk allowed.


At the Bat :


Nick Ward, Marcus Lee Sang and Anthony Quirion each had two hits.  Lee Sang hit two triples and had three RBIs. Quirion homered and had two RBIs.

Summary :


Three walks, a single, a double and a two run home run (Abel Bastidas) posted six first inning runs for Lakeland.


Bryan Rincon walked in the second inning, went to third base on a single by William Bergolla and scored on a sac fly by Cole Moore.  Jordan Viars was hit by a pitch and Cade Fergus hit a three run home run.


Bryan Rincon and Cole Moore singled in the sixth inning, they both scored on a double by Jordan Dissin.


The game went into extra innings tied at six each.


William Bergolla delivered the walk off game winning hit, a two out single in the bottom of the 10th!


On the Hill :


Jonathan Petit was really strong in relief, four and two third innings, one run, three hits, no walks and a whopping eleven strikeouts 😳.  Danny Wilkinson went one and two third innings, no runs or hits, one walk, four strikeouts.  Jonh Henriquez pitched three scoreless innings, no hits, one walk, four strikeouts, he struck out the side in the ninth inning.


At the Bat :


William Bergolla, Bryan Rincon and Cade Fergus each had two hits. Jordan Dissin doubled, Cade Fergus homered.

Tigers 14 (24-19) Phillies 3 (23-19)

Summary :


Devin Saltiban singled in the first inning, stole second and scored on a double by Keaton Anthony.


The Tigers scored twice in the bottom of the first inning on a walk and two doubles.


Leonardo Rondon walked in the second, advanced to third on a couple groundouts and scored on a single by Diego Gonzalez.


A hit batter and four singles scored two Tiger runs in the third inning.  They scored four runs in the 5th inning on a walk and four singles.


A bases loaded walk scored a run for the Phillies in the top of the seventh, two walks and a single by Trent Farquhar had loaded the bases.


The Tigers scored two in the seventh on three hits and four in the eighth on three walks, a hit batter and two sac flys.


On the Hill :


Four pitchers used in a rough outing, Drew Garrett retired all three batters he faced, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Keaton Anthony and Jorge Mendez each doubled.



Dominican Summer League :


Phillies Red (23-18). Mariners (21-21) - suspended game - rain

Summary :


Game was suspended due to weather in the bottom of the third inning with Phillies leading 8-0.


Phillies White (33-8) Angels (31-11) - suspended game - rain

Summary :


Game was suspended due to weather in the top of the fourth inning with Angels leading 1-0.

Multiple “new arms” threw side bullpen sessions today including Cam Brown, Brandon Beckel, Casey Steward, Hunter Loyd, Chase Hopewell and Brayden Tucker.

Lehigh Valley  : RHP Griff McGarry promoted from Reading


Reading : LHP Tristan Garnett promoted from Jersey Shore.  Reinstated RHP Mick Abel from the Development List.

Placed RHP McKinley Moore on the 7-day IL (retroactive to 8/3).


Jersey Shore : RHP Carlos Betancourt transferred back from Lehigh Valley.
