Phillies 11 Yankees 7 - Seven Innings

The Yankees were the home team in Philadelphia while wearing their away jerseys and the game ( part of a doubleheader ) was scheduled for seven inning 😳 ... only in 2020.

New York scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first as DJ LeMahieu singled and then would have been part of a double play ground out by Aaron Judge but Phillies Shortstop Jean Segura booted the chance. LeMahieu moved to third on a walk and scored on a 6-4-3 double play ground out by Gleyber Torres. 1-0 NY after one inning played.

Brett Gardner hit a two out two run home run in the second inning for the Yankees.

Bryce Harper hit a two run home run in the top of the third inning for the Phillies scoring Andrew McCutchen ( walked ) in front of him. JT Realmuto walked and Jean Segura hit a bloop double to center field to send him to third base ... Scott Kingery then walked to load the bases. Phil Gosselin walked to score Realmuto. Roman Quinn hit a grounder to shortstop that scored Segura ... Quinn flew down the line to beat the relay throw from second to first and avoid an inning ending double play !

JA Happ really battled control ... he lasted just three innings for NY ( 4 R, 3 H, 6 BB, 1 K ).

JT Realmuto led off the fifth inning with a home run into the left field seats 💪.

Roman Quinn led off the sixth inning with a single, he advanced to third on a single by pinch hitter Jay Bruce. Andrew McCutchen walked to load the bases. Rhys Hoskins singled to left field on an 0-2 count to score Quinn. Bryce Harper hit a sharp grounder to second base with a drawn in infield ... the throw came home but clanked off the catcher’s mitt which allowed two runs to score ! JT Realmuto then singled to score Hoskins. Scott Kingery punched a single to right field to score Harper. Didi Gregorius singled to score Jean Segura ( reached on FC ). The Phillies sent 11 hitters to the plate in the inning.

Zach Wheeler was very good ... he went six innings - 3 R - 2 earned, 6 H, 2 BB.

The Yankees scored a run on a couple hits and then Aaron Judge hit a three run home run for NY in the seventh.

Austin Davis struggled mightily in the seventh ... he went only 1/3 of an inning - 4 R, 4 H ... Trevor Kelley came in and yielded a couple hits before getting the second out on a called 3-2 strike against Mike Ford that was very very borderline ... it got Yankees third base coach Phil Nevin ejected by home plate umpire Angel Hernandez for arguing the call 🥴.

Hector Neris threw one pitch to record the game’s final out.

Record is now 2-3

Notes :

The Phillies had 11 hits and 7 walks in the game ... ten players had hits ... JT Realmuto had two hits and walked twice.

For every Phillies home run that lands in the seats, a cardboard cutout of the player is placed in that spot. Also ... Ryan Howard’s likeness is already in place for the monstrous homer way up in the right field bleachers when he was playing 🤓.

Phil Gosselin has 11 plate appearances this season and has reached base 8 times - 3 BB, 1 double, 2 HR’s ... and he got pinch hit for in his third AB today 😳
