Bridge League :
The informal league designed to create games for those players who would be playing in the FCL otherwise has an extended spring training feel to it therefore a similar flexibility in schedule.
It was decided two days ago that today’s Phillies game scheduled against the Tigers in Lakeland would not be played … however with Hurricane Debbie now past Florida that decision was reversed yesterday and the game will be now be played as originally scheduled today at noon in Lakeland. Of course it’s still rainy season here in FLA so it’s always “weather permitting”.
Rosters :
Since it’s an informal league players don’t actually have to be assigned to a roster to participate however this week also represents the week that the new draftees and un-drafted free agents must be formally counted against the 165 player limit. Those players didn’t count till 15 days had elapsed afterthey had signed their contract if not assigned to a roster before then. For most the grace period elapses this week. It’s the same rule for un-drafted free agents.
In order to create room for the 2024 signed draft class roster space must be opened either via releases or assignments to the 60 day IL. There will be numerous transactions this week.
Yesterday OF Ryan McKenna was signed and placed on the Lehigh Valley roster. He’s got prior major league experience and adds depth to the AAA club as a RH bat that can play all three outfield positions. He was waived by the Orioles in May and claimed by the Giants who released him on 8/3/24. The Phillies signed him to a minor league contract.
LHP David Parkinson was released yesterday. David was pitching for Lehigh Valley as a spot starter and bulk reliever. We wish David well in his future endeavors, he’s a nice young man.
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
