I screwed up on yesterday’s article ... I doubled up on the number of games played rather than using the absolute in my calculations 🥴. Here are the revised numbers ... apologies ... I blame it on isolation and that today‘s the 38th wedding anniversary for my wife Barb and I so I wasn‘t as focused on me numbers ... good thing no one pays me for this stuff !
There have been 177 games played so far in this strangest of seasons ... here are some statistical facts that perhaps you weren’t aware of 🤔or maybe didn’t care to know 🥴.
Twenty-one shutouts ( 12 percent of games played ) have been thrown to date with the Indians leading the way with three while four clubs ( Cubs, Marlins, Brewers and Twins ) have two apiece. Last season there were 268 shutouts in the 2,429 games played ( 11 percent ) ... that’s a bit surprising to me as it seemed that the pace for shutouts was far greater this season ... in reality it’s just slightly above last year’s pace 😳. There were 312 shutouts in 2018 ( 13 percent of games played ) and 259 ( 11 percent ) in 2017 🧐.
Love the long ball ? This season 430 homers have been hit ( an average of 2.43 per game ). So taters are down on average from last season so far even though August is hitting season ... but still well above the last ten year average ...

This year the per game average is 17.61 ( 3,117 in 177 games ) ... that’s right at last year’s average and continues a two year trend where the average number of strikeouts per game has been above seventeen ... it’s been on the rise each of the past ten years 😳.
