8/8/23 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) - Rochester 8 (18-16, 52-55). Lehigh Valley 7 (20-13, 56-50)

Rochester, NY - Innovative Field


Summary :


Rochester scored a run in the second inning on a walk and two singles.


A single by Esteban Quiroz in the 4th inning was followed by three walks to score Quiroz. Kody Clemens then hit a grand slam home run. 💪.


Rochester scored a run in the 5th on a walk, stolen base and fielding error.


Scott Kingery walked in the 6th inning and scored on a home run by Jim Haley.


A walk,  double and triple scored two Rochester runs in the seventh inning.


A single and three walks scored a run for Rochester in the 8th inning.


Rochester scored three runs in the ninth inning on a single, walk, single and double for the walk off win.


There were 19 walks in the ABS called game.


On the Hill :


Tyler Phillips had a strong outing, six innings, two runs - one earned, four hits, three walks, one strikeout.  Brett Schulze went 2/3 of an inning, two runs, two hits, one walk.  Taylor Lehman retired the only batter faced and stranded an inherited runner.  Andrew Bellatti recorded no outs, faced four batters, one run, one hit, three walks.  Tyler McKay stranded three inherited runners with a line out and 4-6-3 double play ground ball. Tyler went one and two third innings, three runs, three hits, two walks and two strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Kody Clemens hit a grand slam and Jim Haley homered.  The team walked ten times in the game.

Summary :


Erick Brito singled in the third inning, stole second base and scored on a single by Rixon Wingrove.


Jared Carr singled in the 4th inning, stole second and scored on a double by Leandro Pineda.


Marcus Lee Sang walked in the fifth inning and scored on a double by Gabriel Rincones Jr.


Three singles and a ground out scored two runs for Hudson Valley in the 6th inning.


A walk and a double scored a run in the 7th inning for Hudson Valley.


Caleb Ricketts and Otto Kemp singled in the 8th inning, they both scored on a double by Jared Carr.


On the Hill :


Gabriel Cotto went five innings plus, two runs, six hits, two walks, two strikeouts.  Andrew Walling pitched two innings, one run, one hit, one walk, two strikeouts.  Wesley Moore pitched a perfect 8th inning, one strikeout.  Matt Russell recorded the save with a scoreless ninth inning, no hits or walks, two strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Otto Kemp and Jared Carr each had two hits (both singled & doubled).  Leandro Pineda and Gabriel Rincones Jr each doubled.

Summary :


Emaarion Boyd singled in the first inning, stole second base and scored on a single by Justin Crawford.  Crawford advanced to third base when Bryan Rincon reached on an error and scored on a sac fly by Felix Reyes.


In the second inning Jordan Viars walked, Emaarion Boyd singled and Cristian Pache reached on an error. Justin Crawford walked to score a run as did Bryan Rincon.


Tampa scored three runs in the third inning on two walks, a single and double.  They plated another in the 4th on a walk, double and ground out.


Justin Crawford doubled in the 4th inning, Bryan Rincon reached on an error.  Felix Reyes hit a three run home run.


Bryan Rincon walked in the 6th, stole second and scored on a double by Felix Reyes.


Justin Crawford singled in the 8th, stole second and scored on a single by Felix Reyes.


Jordan Viars singled in the 9th inning, went to third base on a double by Chad Castillo and scored on a sac fly by Troy Schreffler.


On the Hill :


Guissepe Velasquez pitched four innings, four runs, five hits, three walks, three strikeouts.  Danny Wilkinson pitched two innings, no runs, one hit, two walks, three strikeouts.  Josh Bortka pitched two perfect innings, two strikeouts.  Jonh Henriquez closed it with a scoreless ninth, one walk, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Emaarion Boyd had three hits (two singles & triple), a stolen base and scored twice.  Felix Reyes had three hits (single, double & HR) with six RBI’s.  Justin Crawford had three hits ( two singles & double), a walk, two RBIs and scored three runs.  Jordan Viars had two hits, Chad Castillo doubled.



Florida Complex League


Phillies 6 (24-21) Yankees 4 (25-19)

@ Clearwater, FL


Summary :


The Yankees scored a run in the second inning on two doubles.


Gustavo Sosa homered in the third inning.


With the bases loaded and two outs in the 6th inning Gustavo Sosa singled to score Keaton Anthony (walked) and Yhoswar Garcia (singled).


The Yankees scored a run in the seventh on a walk, double and ground out.


Raylin Heredia walked in the bottom of the 7th, Jorge Mendez was hit by a pitch and Keaton Anthony singled to load the bases.    A balk scored Heredia.  Mendez scored on a wild pitch.


A single and three walks scored a Yankees run in the 8th inning.  A wild pitch scored another.


Jehisbert Sevilla singled in the bottom of the 8th, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Jorge Mendez.


It’s been brutally hot here in the Clearwater area, in the past couple of weeks we’ve seen a couple pitchers spit up behind the mound, both stayed in the game thereafter.  I’ve not been attending in person but watching on video feed, hopefully it cools off a bit soon.


On the Hill :


Ezequiel Ventura pitched well, five innings, one run, no walks, six strikeouts.  Jose Peña Jr went two innings, one run, two hits, three walks.  Luis Gomez stranded two of three inherited runners in the 8th inning and then closed out the win, he pitched one and two third innings, no runs or hits, one walk, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Gustavo Sosa had two hits (single & HR), two walks  and three RBIs.   Diego Gonzalez had two hits.



Web Gem:


Center fielder Santiago Torres threw a runner out at the plate to end the 6th inning.


Dominican Summer League :


Pirates Gold 7 (30-12) Phillies Red 2 (23-20)

Summary :


The Phillies scored a run in the second inning on two walks and an RBI single by Andres Hernandez.


Esterling Rodriquez singled in the third inning and scored on a double by Manolfi Jimenez.


The Pirates scored three runs in the fifth, one on an RBI triple by Juan Machado, another on a wild pitch and the third on a double steal.  They added two in the sixth on another double steal and an RBI single and two in the 8th on another RBI triple (John Zorilla) and a sac fly.


On the Hill :


Six pitchers were used, Juan Amarante pitched four innings, no runs, two hits, three walks and six strikeouts.  Angel Ferreras and Juan Melendez each pitched a scoreless frame.


At the Bat :


Esterling Rodriquez had two hits, Manolfi Jimenez doubled.  The team had four hits total.



Giants Black 2 (22-23) Phillies White 1 (34-9) - eight innings

Summary :


The game (scheduled for seven innings), went into extra innings tied 0-0.


The Phillies scored placed runner Andres Taberas in the top of the 8th on a ground out and wild pitch.


In the bottom of the 8th a passed ball allowed the placed runner to move up to third base.  A walk followed by a single scored him.  A wild pitch moved both runners up a base and a sac fly scored the walk off game winner.


On the Hill :


Elicier Bata pitched four and one third innings, no runs, four hits, one walk, four strikeouts.  Eduardo Fernandez went two and one third innings, no runs, one hit, one walk, one strikeout.  Josbel Garcia pitched one and one third frames, two runs - one earned, two hits, one walk.


At the Bat :


Angel Mata had both of the team’s hits, two singles.
