8/9/23 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) - Lehigh Valley 14 (21-13, 57-50) Rochester 13 (18-17, 52-56)

Rochester, NY - Innovative Field


Summary :


Matt Kroon homered to lead off the game, his first triple A level AB!  Kody Clemens, Dustin Peterson and Darick Hall singled.  Drew Ellis singled to score two runs. Jordan Qsar reached on an error.  Jim Haley singled to score two runs. Rafael Marchan singled to score another. Matt Kroon singled in his second AB of the inning to score a run.


A single, two walks,double and single scored four runs for Rochester in the bottom of the first inning.


Drew Ellis doubled in the second inning and scored on a Jim Haley home run.


Matt Kroon doubled in the third inning and scored on a double by Kody Clemens.  Dustin Peterson was hit by a pitch, Darick Hall hit a three run home run.


Rochester scored four runs in the third inning on three singles, a walk and two doubles.


Jim Haley walked in the 6th inning, advanced on a single by Scott Kingery and scored on a single by Max McDowell.


Jack Dunn hit a three run home run for Rochester in the 8th inning.


Travis Blankenhorn hit a two run home run for Rochester in the 9th.


On the Hill :


Griff McGarry pitched two and two third innings, eight runs, seven hits, three walks and two strikeouts. Jeremy Walker pitched one third of an inning.  Noah Skirrow pitched four innings, no runs, four hits, two walks and three strikeouts.  Braden Zarbnisky pitched an inning, three runs, two hits, one walk, two strikeouts. Ben Bowden pitched the final inning, two runs, one hit, one walk.


At the Bat :


Matt Kroon had a great AAA debut (single, double, HR), Darick Hall also had three hits (two singles and HR - three RBIs).  Jim Haley was also in the three hit club (two singles and HR),he had four RBIs.  Drew Ellis and Kody Clemens each had two hits, they both singled and doubled.  The team had 17 hits in the game.

Game One : New Hampshire 3 Reading 2


Summary :


Madison Stokes singled in the first inning, went to second on a balk, to third on a throwing error and then scored on a sac fly by Oliver Dunn.


Ethan Wilson homered in the second inning.


Trevor Schwecke homered for New Hampshire in the bottom of the second.


A walk, hit batter and single scored a run for New Hampshire in the 5th inning.


New Hampshire won on a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh, a walk, sac bunt, wild pitch and sac fly scored the game winner.


On the Hill :


Josh Hendrickson went four and two third innings, two runs, two hits, three walks and five strikeouts. Dominic Pipkin went an inning and a third, no runs, one hit, one walk, one strikeout.  Carlos Francisco went two thirds of an inning, one run, one walk.


At the Bat :


Ethan Wilson had two hits (double & HR).  The team had five hits total


Defensive Gems :


Reading turned three double plays, two started by third baseman Cam Cannon on some very nice stops.  Second baseman Oliver Dunn impressed with his quick hands and turns on the bag, alongside Scott Kingery (Lehigh Valley) it’s the best turns on the bag as a second baseman I’ve seen this summer.



Game Two :  New Hampshire 5 Reading 3


Summary :


Oliver Dunn hit a three run home run (16th on the season) in the third inning scoring Herbert Iser and Nick Ward who had each singled ahead of himself.


Rainer Nunez hit a two run home run for New Hampshire in the bottom of the fourth.  A single followed by a Miguel Hiraldo home run scored two more.


New Hampshire scored a run in the sixth on a single, stolen base, wild pitch and single.


On the Hill :


Adam Leverett went three scoreless innings as the starter, two hits, one walk, three strikeouts.  Cristian Hernandez was tagged for four runs on three hits and two walks in two thirds of an inning.  Tristan Garnett pitched one and a third innings, no runs, one hit, two strikeouts.  Tommy McCollum pitched an inning, one run, one hit and one walk.


At the Bat :


Oliver Dunn had two hits (single & HR) and three RBIs.   The team had five hits total

Summary :


Otto Kemp walked and Jared Carr singled in the third inning, both scored on a home run by Leandro Pineda.


A double and single scored a Hudson Valley run in the fourth inning.


The BlueClaws exploded for five runs in the 5th inning, after two walks and a sac bunt put runners on second and third Marcus Lee Sang singled to score a run,  Rixon Wingrove singled to score another.  Caleb Ricketts hit a three run home run.


Rixon Wingrove hit a home run in the seventh inning.


A single and a double scored a run for Hudson Valley in the 7th inning.  They scored a run in the 9th on a double, catcher’s interference and a single.


On the Hill :


Michael Plassmeyer started and went two innings, no runs, one hit, one walk and two strikeouts. Gunner Mayer pitched five and one third innings, two runs, five hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Carlos Betancourt retired both batters he faced, one by strikeout. Jordi Martinez finished by pitching the ninth, one run, two hits, no walks, three strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Rixon Wingrove had two hits (single & HR). Leandro Pineda and Caleb Ricketts homered.

Marcus Lee Sang stole his 20th base of the year on July 18th and now has seven home runs and 20 stolen bases this year, one of just 10 BlueClaws to have done that since the team’s inception in 2001.  The most recent was Ethan Wilson (seven HRs, 25 SBs in 2022), though before Wilson it hadn’t happened since Dylan Cozens (16 HRs, 23 SBs in 2014). Tampa, FL - George M Steinbrenner Field


Summary :


A single, two hit batters and a ground out scored a run for Tampa in the second inning.


Ryan Leitch doubled in the third inning and scored on a single by Emaarion Boyd.


Tampa scored three runs in the 4th on two singles, a walk, error and double.


Emaarion Boyd singled and Cristian Pache walked in the 5th inning, a throwing error allowed Boyd to score and Pache to go to third base, Justin Crawford hit a sac fly to score Pache.


Two walks, a double and sac fly score two Tampa runs in the bottom of the 5th.  They scored two more in the 6th on two walks and two hits.


Cristian Pache singled in the seventh inning and scored on a home run by Justin Crawford.  Zach Arnold singled and scored on a double by Cole Moore.


Ty Penner walked in the 8th inning and advanced to third on a double by Ryan Leitch.  Penner then scored on a balk.  Troy Schreffler hit a two run home run.


Bryson Ware homered in the ninth inning.


On the Hill :


Jean Cabrera went four innings, four runs - one earned, four hits, two walks, five strikeouts.  Daniel Harper pitched one and two third innings, four runs on three hits and four walks. Yoniel Ramirez pitched an inning and a third, no runs, one hit, three walks. Wen Hui Pan pitched two innings to close it, no runs, one hit, one walk, four strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Six players had two hits apiece - Emaarion Boyd, Cristian Pache, Justin Crawford, Zach Arnold, Cole Moore and Ryan Leitch.  Leitch had two doubles, Moore had one.  Justin Crawford, Bryson Ware and Troy Schreffler each homered.

Summary :


Jarol Martinez doubled to score a first inning run.


The Orioles scored four runs in the bottom of the first on two walks, two doubles and a triple.


Leny Carela hit a two run double in the second inning, Angel Mata scored a run with a double in the third.  Yemil Rosario hit a grand slam home run in the fourth and Guillermo Rosario posted an RBI single.


The game was suspended in the middle of the 4th inning.


Action resumed today in the bottom of the fourth - the Orioles scored a run in the 4th on a single and three wild pitches.


Fernando Peguero homered for the Orioles in the bottom of the seventh.


On the Hill :


Elicier Bata started the game on 7/26 and pitched three innings, four runs, three hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Alexis De La Cruz finished it today, four innings, two runs, two hits, no walks and nine strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Yemil Rosario had three hits (two singles and grand slam HR), Jose Marchan also had three knocks (two singles and a double).  Jarol Martinez, Leny Carela and Angel Mata each doubled.
