9/10/23 : Minor League Roundup

International League ( AAA ) - Buffalo 6 (36-25, 70-66) Lehigh Valley 3 (38-25, 74-62)

Buffalo, NY - Sahlen Field


Summary :


Damiano Palmegiani hit a grand slam for Buffalo in the third inning.


Kody Clemens doubled in the fourth inning, moved to third on a fly ball and scored on a ground out.


Kody Clemens tripled in the sixth inning and scored on a double by Weston Wilson.  Dustin Peterson doubled to score Wilson.


A walk, single and double scored two runs in the eighth inning for Buffalo.


On the Hill :


Drew Hutchison pitched five innings, four runs, six hits, five walks, four strikeouts.  Brett Schulze pitched an inning, no runs, one hit, no walks, two strikeouts. Tyler McKay pitched a scoreless frame, one strikeout.  Hector Perez pitched an inning, two runs, two hits, one walk, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Kody Clemens had two hits (double and triple).  Dustin Peterson had two knocks (single & double).  Weston Wilson doubled.

Eastern League ( AA) -  Portland 9 (30-32, 70-61) Reading 3 (29-33, 57-73)

Reading, PA - FirstEnergy Stadium


Summary :


A double, hit batter, walk, single and sac fly scored two runs for Portland in the first inning.  Three singles scored a run for them in the third inning.


A walk and double scored a fourth inning run for Portland.  A single and double steal scored another.  The game was suspended due to rain at this point and picked up today.


Portland scored a third run in the fourth inning on a ground out. They added a run in the fifth on a walk and double.


Carlos De La Cruz doubled in the bottom of the fifth to score a run. Two walks and a balk scored another.


Portland scored twice in the ninth on two singles, a stolen base and two errors.


Pedro Martinez and Marcus Lee Sang singled in the bottom of the ninth, Carlos De La Cruz hit a sac fly to score a run.


On the Hill :


Josh Hendrickson went three innings, six runs, seven hits, five walks, three strikeouts.  Carlos Francisco went two and a third innings, one run, one hit, two walks, two strikeouts.  Andrew Baker pitched one and two thirds, no runs or hits, three walks, four strikeouts.  Jordi Martinez went one and two thirds, two runs - one earned, four hits, one walk, two strikeouts.  Cristian Hernandez retired the only batter he faced with a strikeout.


At the Bat :


Carlos De La Cruz had two hits (single & double) and two RBIs. Oliver Dunn singled twice.


Notes :


A second game was scheduled but was cancelled due to weather.

South Atlantic League ( High A ) - Jersey Shore 10 (38-28, 73-58) Hudson Valley 9 (31-35, 70-62) - eleven innings

Wappingers Falls, NY - Heritage Financial Park


Summary :


Gabriel Rincones Jr reached on an error in the first inning. Felix Reyes also reached on an error on which Rincones Jr scored.


Otto Kemp singled in the second inning, advanced to third on a single by Caleb Ricketts and scored on a sac fly by Erick Brito.


A single, stolen base and single scored a run for Hudson Valley in the bottom of the second.  They scored a run in the fourth inning on a walk, single, fielding error and single.


Hudson Valley scored twice in the fifth inning on two singles and a double.


Jersey Shore scored five runs in the sixth inning.  Leandro Pineda doubled and scored on a double by Otto Kemp.  Caleb Ricketts walked, Erick Brito singled to score a run. Jared Carr singled on a bunt down the first base line.  Justin Crawford reached on a force out at the plate however the first base man missed the throw back from the catcher and Brito scored. A wild pitch scored Carr and moved Crawford to second base. A single by Gabriel Rincones Jr scored Crawford.


Hudson Valley scored twice in the bottom of the sixth on three singles and two stolen bases.  They scored twice in the seventh inning on home runs by Spencer Henson and Kyle Battle.


Hudson Valley added a run in the eighth on a single, double and passed ball.


In the top of the ninth Leandro Pineda and Otto Kemp singled.  They advanced on a wild pitch.  With two outs Erick Brito reached on a ground ball down the third base line that the third baseman fielded but threw wide of first base, two runs scored.


The game went into extra innings tied at nine.


Jason Ruffcorn was money - he pitched scoreless ninth and tenth innings.


In the eleventh Felix Reyes flew out to right field to move placed runner Gabriel Rincones Jr to third base.  Otto Kemp hit a sac fly to score him.


Gabriel Cotto (normally a starter) came out of the bullpen and pitched a perfect eleventh inning to seal the win!  He was aided by a stellar diving play on a hard grounder to the hole by third baseman Otto Kemp who then made a perfect throw to first base for the first out of the inning!


With the victory Jersey Shore wins the second half North Division championship and qualifies for the playoffs as Brooklyn lost earlier in the day to Wilmington.  The two teams tied in second half records but the BlueClaws won the tiebreaker (head to head competition).


On the Hill :


Konnor Ash opened, two innings, one run, two hits, four strikeouts.  Gunner Mayer went one and two third innings, one unearned run, two hits, two walks, one strikeout. Cam Wynne pitched one and one third innings, two runs on four hits. Wen-Hui Pan pitched two thirds of an inning, two runs, three hits.  Jason Ruffcorn pitched three innings, one unearned run, three hits, two walks, four strikeouts.  Gabriel Cotto pitched a perfect inning.


At the Bat :


Otto Kemp had three hits (two singles and double), a walk and two RBIs - money player all around!  Felix Reyes, Leandro Pineda, Caleb Ricketts and Jared Carr each had two hits. Pineda hit his 20th double of the season.
