9/10/23 : Week Twenty-Three Minor League Review (9/5 to 9/10)


The four full season teams went 13-9 in regular season games for the week. The seven clubs in the system are now a cumulative 382-307 in the regular season for a winning percentage of .554.  The four affiliates participating in split seasons are 140-115 (.549) in the second half.  Both Clearwater and Jersey Shore qualified for the playoffs next week and each club finished the regular season with top overall records in their respective leagues, Clearwater led the FSL and Jersey Shore was just percentage points behind the SAL the league leader, they set and protected the standard!


Pitchers Shaun Anderson and Tyler Phillips turned in good starts for Lehigh Valley as they split their six games in Buffalo.  Weston Wilson set the new single season high water mark in home runs for the franchise with his 31st of the year.


Mick Abel, Zach Haake, David Parkinson and Orion Kerkering shined on the hill for Reading in their final home series of the season.


Jersey Shore won a roller coaster game on Sunday in eleven innings to win the second half north division championship and playoff berth!  Jason Ruffcorn came thru in the clutch in the game pitching three high pressure innings.  Otto Kemp shined both offensively and defensively during the week. The BlueClaws now face Hudson Valley one more time in a best of three playoff series beginning on Tuesday.


Clearwater’s Raylin Heredia had a big week (10 for 17 (.588) with five runs scored, two doubles, triple, home run, five RBIs - .611 OBP) reminiscent of his season in the Florida Complex League before his promotion, the young man can play.  Bryson Ware and Jordan Dissin also had strong weeks, Ware hit .467 in fifteen AB’s and Dissin hit two home runs and drove in six runs.  Estibenzon Jimenez, Eiberson Castellano and Braeden Fausnaught turned in strong starting pitching assignments.  The Threshers finish the regular season with the best overall record in the Florida State League at 79-50 (.612) and will now play the Lakeland Flying Tigers in the semi final round of the playoffs in a best of three series beginning on Tuesday.


AAA Level : Lehigh Valley : 3-3 for the week against Buffalo, (38-25, 74-62)- 9/12/23 @ Rochester

Recap :


Tuesday : Matt Kroon and Rafael Marchan doubled.  Darick Hall homered.   Those were the team’s only three hits.


Wednesday : Matt Kroon had two hits (both doubles).  Dustin Peterson had two hits (single & double - three RBIs).  Aramis Garcia doubled.


Thursday : Jim Haley had three hits (two singles & HR), Rafael Marchan doubled and hit a grand slam, he posted six RBIs.  Darick Hall had two hits.  Simon Muzziotti doubled.


Friday : Weston Wilson homered twice (30th and 31st ) breaking the franchise single season record, he was previously tied with Rhys Hoskins.  He had three hits and six RBIs.  Darick Hall, Aramis Garcia had three hits and Kody Clemens had two hits.  Clemens, Dustin Peterson, Garcia, Jim Haley and Scott Kingery doubled.  Clemens tripled.


Saturday : The team had four hits, Weston Wilson doubled, Matt Kroon tripled.


Sunday : Kody Clemens had two hits (double and triple).  Dustin Peterson had two knocks (single & double).  Weston Wilson doubled.


Pitchers :


Shaun Anderson - seven innings, one run, six hits, no walks, seven strikeouts

Tyler Phillips - five innings plus, one unearned run, six hits, four walks, three strikeouts.

Nick Nelson - six and one third innings, two runs, seven hits, four strikeouts.

Tuesday : TJ Zeuch went three innings, six runs, six hits, one walk.  Brett Schulze pitched an inning, two runs, one hit, three walks.  Taylor Lehman pitched one and a third innings, four runs - two earned, three hits, one walk, two strikeouts.  Tyler McKay pitched an inning and a third, no runs, two hits, one walk, one strikeout - two inherited runners scored.  Infielder Esteban Quiroz pitched the eighth inning - no runs or hits, one walk.


Wednesday : Tyler Phillips was good, five innings plus, one unearned run, six hits, four walks, three strikeouts. Louis Ortiz pitched two innings, one run, two hits, one strikeout. Hector Perez pitched two thirds of an inning, three runs, one hit, four walks, one strikeout. Yunior Marte pitched an inning and a third, no runs or hits, two walks, two strikeouts - he stranded three inherited runners.  Ben Bowden finished it, two innings, no runs, no hits, one walk, two strikeouts.


Thursday : Shaun Anderson pitched seven innings, one run, six hits, no walks, seven strikeouts. Brett Schulze pitched an inning, no runs or hits, three walks, one strikeout. Connor Brogdon pitched an inning, one run, one hit, one walk.


Friday : Michael Plassmeyer went four and two third innings, one run, three hits, three walks, five strikeouts. Jeremy Walker pitched one and a third innings, no runs, three hits, two strikeouts.  Tyler McKay went one third of an inning, one run, one hit, two hit batters, one walk, one strikeout.  Taylor Lehman retired both batters he faced, one by strikeout and stranded three inherited runners.  Yunior Marte pitched a scoreless frame, one walk, two strikeouts.  Hector Perez finished with a perfect inning, one strikeout.


Saturday : Nick Nelson with another good outing, six and one third innings, two runs, seven hits, four strikeouts. Ben Bowden went two thirds of an inning, no runs, one hit - one of two inherited runners scored.  Luis Ortiz went one and one third innings, one run, three hits, two walks.


Sunday : Drew Hutchison pitched five innings, four runs, six hits, five walks, four strikeouts.  Brett Schulze pitched an inning, no runs, one hit, no walks, two strikeouts. Tyler McKay pitched a scoreless frame, one strikeout.  Hector Perez pitched an inning, two runs, two hits, one walk, one strikeout.


AA Level : Reading : 3-2 for the week against Portland, (29-33, 57-73) overall - 9/12/23 @ Binghamton

Tuesday : Nick Ward had two hits.  Pedro Martinez singled and homered.  Carlos De La Cruz homered (23rd) and walked.


Wednesday : Ethan Wilson had two hits (single & double).  Marcus Lee Sang hit a two run home run.   The team had three hits total.


Friday Game One : Carlos De La Cruz, Baron Radcliff and Madison Stokes each hit home runs.  De La Cruz had two RBIs and also walked twice.


Friday Game Two : The team was held to three singles.


Sunday : Carlos De La Cruz had two hits (single & double) and two RBIs. Oliver Dunn singled twice.

McKinley Moore pitched an inning, one run, two hits, no walks, one strikeout.  Keylan Killgore pitched an inning, two runs - one earned, two hits, one walk, one strikeout.  Orion Kerkering closed it, perfect inning, two strikeouts.


Wednesday : Mick Abel was excellent, six innings, no runs, one hit, two walks, seven strikeouts - focused on four seamer, sinker and curve - no sliders tonight, all three pitches were commanded and had great movement - four seamer was upper nineties when used, with the sinker and curve it was a weapon pitch tonight.  Jordi Martinez pitched an inning, two runs - one earned, three hits, one strikeout.  Dominic Pipkin pitched a perfect inning, one strikeout.  Tristan Garnett closed it, one inning, no runs, two hits, one walk, one strikeout.


Friday Game One  : Matt Osterberg pitched two and one third innings on Thursday in the original start time of the game, no runs, one hit.  David Parkinson pitched well going four innings, two runs, four hits, two walks, three strikeouts.  McKinley Moore pitched the eighth inning, no runs, one hit, one walk, two strikeouts.  Orion Kerkering finished, one inning, no runs, two hits.


Friday Game Two : Adam Leverett went three innings, one run, three hits, two walks, one strikeout.  Cristian Hernandez pitched an inning, no runs, one hit, one walk, three strikeouts.  Andrew Baker pitched an inning, three runs - two earned, one hit, three walks.  Keylan Killgore pitched two innings, two runs, three hits, two walks, one strikeout.


Sunday : Josh Hendrickson went three innings, six runs, seven hits, five walks, three strikeouts.  Carlos Francisco went two and a third innings, one run, one hit, two walks, two strikeouts.  Andrew Baker pitched one and two thirds, no runs or hits, three walks, four strikeouts.  Jordi Martinez went one and two thirds, two runs - one earned, four hits, one walk, two strikeouts.  Cristian Hernandez retired the only batter he faced with a strikeout.


High A Level : Jersey Shore : 4-2 for the week against Hudson Valley, (38-28, 73-58) overall

Tuesday : Otto Kemp doubled.   The team was held to four hits.


Wednesday : Cole Moore doubled, Gabriel Rincones Jr singled, walked twice and had an RBI, the team was held to five hits.


Thursday : Erick Brito had three hits (two singles & triple). Caleb Ricketts, Felix Reyes and Bryan Rincon had two hits. Justin Crawford and Rincon doubled.  Crawford was on base three times as he also walked and was hit by a pitch, he also stole his 45th base of the season (40 with Clearwater), he scored three runs.


Saturday Game One : Justin Crawford had two infield singles, Bryan Rincon had two singles as well.  The team was limited to five hits in total with Otto Kemp getting the other hit, a single in the seventh inning.


Saturday Game Two : Justin Crawford hit two doubles and scored three runs, Caleb Ricketts singled and tripled.  Bryan Rincon doubled and Leandro Pineda tripled.  Anthony Quirion homered.


Sunday : Otto Kemp had three hits (two singles and double), a walk and two RBIs - money player all around!  Felix Reyes, Leandro Pineda, Caleb Ricketts and Jared Carr each had two hits. Pineda hit his 20th double of the season.

Christian McGowan - four innings, no runs, two hits, one walk, six strikeouts

Jack Dallas - two appearances, three and two third innings, no runs, no hits, one walk, four strikeouts

Wednesday : Christian McGowan was dominant - sinker ran in the 93-96 mph range, secondary pitch (slider) was a swing and miss put away offering - very encouraging outing - four innings, no runs, two hits, one walk, six strikeouts.   Konnor Ash went an inning and two thirds, no runs, one hit, three strikeouts.  Andrew Walling pitched one and a third innings, he retired all four batters he faced.  Jack Dallas closed it, two perfect innings, three strikeouts.


Thursday : Gunner Mayer started and pitched an inning, no runs or hits, one walk, two strikeouts, he didn’t return after the lengthy rain delay.  Cam Wynne pitched well in relief, three innings, no runs, three hits, one walk, two strikeouts. Carlos Betancourt was very good, three scoreless innings, two hits, one walk, four strikeouts. Jason Ruffcorn finished it, two innings, one run, three hits, no walks, three strikeouts.


Saturday Game One : Mitch Neunborn pitched five innings, one run, two hits, four walks, six strikeouts.  Matt Russell pitched an inning, one run, two hits, one strikeout.


Saturday Game Two : Rafael Marcano went four innings, one run, two hits, three walks, five strikeouts.  Rodolfo Sanchez pitched one third of an inning, four runs, two hits, two walks.  Jack Dallas pitched one and two third innings, no runs, no hits, one walk, one strikeout. Andrew Walling finished it, one inning, no runs, one hit, two strikeouts.

Friday : Estibenzon Jimenez was very strong once again, five scoreless innings, three hits, one walk, three strikeouts.  Cam Brown pitched an inning, three runs, three hits, one walk, one strikeout.  Brayden Tucker pitched two innings, no runs, one hit, two walks, one strikeout.  Josh Bortka finished it with a perfect inning.


Saturday : Good outing for Braeden Fausnaught - five innings, one run, two hits, two walks, six strikeouts.  Alex Rao went two thirds of an inning, three runs, three hits, two walks, two strikeouts.  Paxton Thompson went one third of an inning, no runs, one walk - stranded two inherited runners.  Danny Wilkinson pitched an inning, one run, no hits, two walks, one strikeout.  Saul Teran pitched an inning and two third, four runs, four hits, two walks, one strikeout.
