9/22/23 : Minor League Roundup

International League ( AAA ) - Worcester 3  (40-32, 80-68)  Lehigh Valley 2 (44-29, 80-66)

Allentown, PA  - Coca-Cola Park


Summary :


Jim Haley singled in the second inning, stole second and scored on a single by Scott Kingery.


Nick Sogard tripled in the third inning for Worcester on a misplayed fly ball by center fielder Matt Kroon.  Sogard scored on a subsequent ground out.


A double, two hit batters and a bases loaded walk scored a run for Worcester in the fifth inning.   A walk, two ground out advancements and a single scored a run for them in the seventh inning.


Esteban Quiroz walked in the ninth inning as did Scott Kingery.  Weston Wilson singled to score Quiroz.


On the Hill :


Mick Abel pitched four and two third innings, two runs, five hits, three walks, six strikeouts - 82 pitches - 48 strikes.  Jeremy Walker went one inning, no runs, no hits, one strikeout - stranded three inherited runners.  Connor Brogdon retired the only batter he faced.  Tyler McKay pitched an inning, one run, one hit, one walk.  Hector Perez pitched a scoreless frame, one walk. Andrew Bellatti pitched an inning, no runs, one hit, one walk, two strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Dustin Peterson and Scott Kingery each had two hits.  Darick Hall extended his hitting streak to nine games with a single.

Lehigh Valley :  RHP Mick Abel transferred from Reading, C Cody Roberts transferred from Reading.  INF Drew Ellis designated for assignment by Phillies.  RHP Yunior Marte optioned from Phillies.  RHP Orion Kerkering promoted to Phillies.


Notes :


Both of this season’s Paul Owens Award are now on the active major league roster - that’s happened five times before, where both of the award winners ended the season they won the awards in the big leagues - 1996 (Rolen & Beech), 1998 (Anderson & Loewer), 2008 (Marson & Happ), 2010 (Brown & Mathieson) and 2012 (Ruf & Cloyd).


Orion Kerkering has become the first Phillies player to play at all four full season minor league levels and then be added to the major league roster in the same season since the four level full season minor league distinction was made in 1990.
