9/22/23 : Triple A Debut

RHP Mick Abel is scheduled make his Lehigh Valley debut tonight as the starting pitcher.

22 years old - drafted in first round of the 2020 draft from Jesuit High School, Portland, OR

Notes : Mick caught fire in his last four starts of the season for Reading posting a 1.17 ERA in twenty-three IP allowing just three runs and eight hits while striking out twenty-three batters.  At the double A level he pitched a career high 108 2/3 innings this year recording a 4.14 ERA in twenty-two starts with 126 strikeouts and 62 walks, opponents hit just .188 against him.  Focused on fastball and curve as primary pitches down the stretch, both plus offerings.  He’s capable of dominating opponents, has a definite big league skill set.  He’s a student of the game and learned a lot in the second half of the season about how he needs to pitch to be successful.  In ten second half starts his ERA was 3.74 in fifty-three innings pitched as compared to the first half when he posted a 4.25 ERA in eleven starts over fifty-five innings. A genuinely nice young man who possesses the gift of being able to throw his fastball consistently in the upper nineties - he’s easy to root for.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
