TOMMY FIELD SELECTED AS 2025 DALLAS GREEN AWARD WINNER
Phillies Press Release
Phillies Area Scout Tommy Field has been selected as the 2025 recipient of the Dallas Green Award, the club announced today.
Field joined the Phillies as an area scout based out of Texas in 2019 and now covers the territory of Oklahoma, Arkansas and Northern Texas. A former infielder, the 38-year-old Field appeared in 47 major league games for the Colorado Rockies (2011-12), Los Angeles Angels (2013) and Texas Rangers (2015) after being selected by the Rockies in the 24thround of the 2008 MLB Draft. He was the signing scout for three of the Phillies’ first five selections in the 2025 MLB Draft: right-handed pitchers Gage Wood (1st round), Sean Youngerman (4thround) and Gabe Craig (5th round). Wood is currently ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the Phillies farm system by MLB.com.
“I was told by a tenured staff member that Dallas frequently said, ‘Put the organization first’ when making an important decision in the draft room, which to me speaks volumes to the type of man he was on a day-to-day basis,” Field said. “I am truly humbled and honored to receive this award and to have it associated with such an influential name in the baseball scouting community.”
The 2025 Dallas Green Award will be presented on the field on Thursday, Sept. 25, prior to the 6:05 p.m. game against the Miami Marlins. The award was established in 2011 to honor the accomplishments of Green, who spent 62 years in professional baseball, 46 of which were with the Phillies. Green passed away in March 2017 at the age of 82.
The award is presented annually to an amateur or professional scout who best exemplifies the Phillies’ standard for scouting while demonstrating the same loyalty, work ethic, dedication and passion as the award’s namesake. It is also recognition of the scout’s ability to judge not only a player’s talent, but also his character and heart.
“Throughout his time here, Tommy Field has shown dedication to his craft, a tireless work ethic and passion for the job that would make Dallas Green proud,” said Brian Barber, Phillies assistant general manager, amateur scouting. “He has a desire to not just evaluate the on-field talent but also dig in and find the type of player with the makeup to be a future Phillie. Everybody with the Phillies is proud to have Tommy represent the scouting department as the recipient of this year’s Dallas Green Award.”
Past winners of the Dallas Green Award have been Dick Lawlor (2011), Bill Harper (2012), Eddie Bockman (2013), Gordon Lakey (2014), Sal Agostinelli (2015), Roy Tanner (2016), Joey Davis (2017), Jesús “Chalao” Méndez (2018), Mike Stauffer (2019), Darrell Conner (2021), Zach Friedman (2022), Dean Albany (2023) and Brian Kohlscheen (2024). The award was not given in 2020.
