9/30/23 : Dominican Fall Instructs Camp

The organization recently completed a three week (9/1 to 9/23) fall instructs camp at the Dominican Academy where over sixty players gathered for drills, meetings, practices and even games against other organizations holding similar camps.

The camp included seventeen year old DSL summer standout catcher Eduardo Tait and others we’ve noted from this past summer’s DSL and FCL action as ones to watch progress.  If you like power arm potential there were quite a few that fit the profile in camp including eighteen year old 6’6” right hander Alexis De La Cruz (fastball up to 95 mph), seventeen year old right hander Pedro Peralta (fastball up to 97 mph, sits 94 to 95 mph and has a developing sweeper), nineteen year old right hander Joel Heredia - Tall (6’6”) lean frame - fastball has been as high as 97 mph and twenty-one year old 6’5” RH Naoel Mejia (fastball up to 97 mph this season, sits around 93 to 95).

DSL 2023 all-star RHP Luis Gonzalez (18 years old) along with seventeen year old lefty Angel Liranzo who also impressed this summer in the DSL were in camp.  Gonzalez uses a four pitch arsenal and possesses strong pitch-ability while Liranzo reminds coaches of Ranger Suarez in delivery, build and mechanics, he’s also a four pitch hurler with a very solid change-up.  Other pitchers who had a strong camp included RHP Luis Avila (twenty years old), LHP Wilmer Blanco (nineteen years old) and RHP Brad Pacheco (eighteen years old).

Position players who showed out in both improvement and promise during the camp included seventeen year old outfielder Jaeden Calderon, eighteen year old catcher Guillermo Rosario, eighteen year old outfielder Manolfi Jimenez, eighteen year old infielder Aroon Escobar and seventeen year old outfielder Jose Marchan.

Thanks to Pitching Coordinator Travis Hergert, lower level Pitching Coordinator Vic Diaz, Latin America Hitting Coordinator Edwar Gonzalez and Player Development Manager Edwin Soto for their feedback on both the Fall Instructs Camp as well as this past summer’s DSL performances.

Next up on the agenda are two “High Performance” where an emphasis is placed on strength and conditioning.  One will be held in Clearwater at the Complex while a concurrent camp will take place at the Dominican Academy.

The process continues, protecting the standard is a year round endeavor.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
