9/4/22 : Week Twenty-Two Minor League Review ( 8/29 to 9/4 )

Pitchers of the Week :


RH Andrew Painter - 7 IP, 1 R, 8 H, 0 BB, 9 K’s - 92 pitches - 69 strikes - longest outing at Reading - used all pitches - fastball sat in the 95 to 99 mph range, curve low 80’s - also threw slider and changeup - updated season totals - 1.24 ERA in 20 games ( 94 2/3 IP ) with a 0.86 WHIP - 141 K’s, 24 BB, 13.4 K/9, 5.9 K/BB, 5.4 H/9 and .170 opponents batting average 😳👀.


RH Mick Abel - 5 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 3 BB, 8 K’s - 68 pitches - 45 strikes - FB in 96-99 mph range - sat 95-97, curve - low to mid 80’s and changeup - upper 80’s - was dominant and likely could have went longer without innings limitation considerations.  One of the better outings of the summer for Mick and it came against a good AA level Hartford team.

Position Players of the Week :


OF Dalton Guthrie - 10  for 22 ( .455 ) with 3 doubles, a triple and 4 RBIs - was promoted to the major leagues on Sunday, September 4th.  The 26 year old 6th round draft selection from the 2017 draft raised his season average to .302 in 338 AB’s and OBP to .363 in 374 PA’s - 27 doubles, 10 home runs and 52 RBIs for the year in 92 games played with 21 stolen bases.



OF Raylin Heredia - 6 for 12 ( .500 ) with 2 doubles, 2 RBIs and a walk.  The 18 year old from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic went 10 for 24 ( .417 ) for the playoffs with 4 doubles, a triple and four RBIs - he had an OBP of .440 - was by far the offensive star of the playoffs and championship series !

2022 season win/loss records :


Lehigh Valley went 1-5 during the week and is 69-60 overall

Reading went 2-4 during the week and is 55-71 overall, 26-31 second half

Jersey Shore went 3-3 during the week and is 47-79 overall, 22-38 second half

Clearwater went 1-4 during the week and is 56-68 overall, 21-38 second half

FCL Phillies finished the season 26-29

DSL Phillies Red finished the season 36-23

DSL Phillies White finished the regular season 40-19


DSL Phillies White won the DSL Championship going 2-1 in the Championship Series and 6-1 in the full playoffs


This coming week’s schedule : ( 9/5 to 9/11 )


AAA - Lehigh Valley will host Worcester ( Red Sox affiliate )

AA - Reading will host New Hampshire ( Blue Jays affiliate )

OF Jorge Garcia - 4 for 12 ( .333 ) with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs in the Championship series - the 18 year old from Penonome, Panama capped off an All-Star season - was the key offensive cog on the championship team - hit .308 in 156 AB’s during the regular season with a .379 OBP.

Baseball America “Best Tools”


This past week Baseball America published lists from each minor league based upon votes cast by the league managers - Hao Yu Lee was selected as the Best Batting Prospect in the Florida State League and Arturo DeFreitas as the Best Defensive Catcher.  Tommy McCollum was selected as the Best Reliever in the Florida State League.  Andrew Painter was selected as the Best Pitching Prospect and Best Fastball in the Florida State League and South Atlantic League - Painter was also selected as having the Best Breaking Pitch in the South Atlantic League.
