9/6/23 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) - Lehigh Valley 8 (36-23, 72-60)  Buffalo 5 (34-23, 68-64) - 11 innings

Buffalo, NY - Sahlen Field


Summary :


Matt Kroon doubled in the third inning, advanced to third on a ground out by Darick Hall and scored on a sac fly by Esteban Quiroz.


Buffalo scored a sixth inning run on a single, walk, fielders choice and fielding error.


Cal Stevenson and Brewer Hicklen walked in the seventh, Matt Kroon doubled to score a run, Darick Hall hit a sac fly to score another.


Buffalo scored in the bottom of the seventh on a single and double.


Esteban Quiroz walked in the eighth inning, Aramis Garcia doubled.  A sac fly by Jim Haley scored a run, another sac fly by Cal Stevenson scored another.


Four walks, a hit batter and single scored three runs for Buffalo in the eighth inning.


The game went into extra innings tied at five.


In the eleventh inning Brewer Hicklen and Darick Hall walked to load the bases with placed runner Cal Stevenson.  Dustin Peterson doubled down the right field line with two outs to score three runs!


On the Hill :


Tyler Phillips was good, five innings plus, one unearned run, six hits, four walks, three strikeouts. Louis Ortiz pitched two innings, one run, two hits, one strikeout. Hector Perez pitched two thirds of an inning, three runs, one hit, four walks, one strikeout. Yunior Marte pitched an inning and a third, no runs or hits, two walks, two strikeouts - he stranded three inherited runners.  Ben Bowden finished it, two innings, no runs, no hits, one walk, two strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Matt Kroon had two hits (both doubles).  Dustin Peterson had two hits (single & double - three RBIs).  Aramis Garcia doubled.



Eastern League ( AA) -  Reading 3 (28-31, 56-71) Portland 2 (28-31, 68-60)

Reading, PA - FirstEnergy Stadium


Summary :


Marcus Lee Sang hit a two run home run in the fifth inning.


Portland scored twice in the seventh inning on three singles, an error and sac fly.


Oliver Dunn walked in the eighth inning and scored on a double by Ethan Wilson.


On the Hill :


Mick Abel was excellent, six innings, no runs, one hit, two walks, seven strikeouts - focused on four seamer, sinker and curve - no sliders tonight, all three pitches were commanded and had great movement - four seamer was upper nineties when used, with the sinker and curve it was a weapon pitch tonight.  Jordi Martinez pitched an inning, two runs - one earned, three hits, one strikeout.  Dominic Pipkin pitched a perfect inning, one strikeout.  Tristan Garnett closed it, one inning, no runs, two hits, one walk, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Ethan Wilson had two hits (single & double).  Marcus Lee Sang hit a two run home run.   The team had three hits total.

Orion Kerkering picked up his fifth Double-A save last night, as he threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning with two strikeouts. Kerkering has now converted on his last five save opportunities and hasn’t allowed a run in his last five outings and 12 of his last 13. Summary :


No runs were scored by either team thru eight innings.


In the top of the ninth Bryan Rincon walked, Otto Kemp reached on catchers interference, Rincon scored on an infield single by Erick Brito.  Justin Crawford and Gabriel Rincones Jr walked to score Kemp.


On the Hill :


Christian McGowan was dominant - sinker ran in the 93-96 mph range, secondary pitch (slider) was a swing and miss put away offering - very encouraging outing - four innings, no runs, two hits, one walk, six strikeouts.   Konnor Ash went an inning and two thirds, no runs, one hit, three strikeouts.  Andrew Walling pitched one and a third innings, he retired all four batters he faced.  Jack Dallas closed it, two perfect innings, three strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Cole Moore doubled, Gabriel Rincones Jr singled, walked twice and had an RBI, the team was held to five hits.


Defensively Speaking :


Otto Kemp has played stellar defense at third base for Jersey Shore, another gold glove type play tonight in the seventh inning ranging far to his left to cut off a ground ball and complete a 5-4-3 double play!

Justin Crawford and Rafael Marcano were named Phillies Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Month for August .  Crawford was 28-68 between the BlueClaws and Clearwater and was promoted to Jersey Shore on August 15th. Marcano made four starts with the BlueClaws and gave up three earned runs in 21.1 August innings, striking out 24 opposing hitters.  They are the third and fourth BlueClaws to win Phillies Monthly Awards after Marcus Lee Sang was May’s Player of the Month and Carlos Francisco was June’s Pitcher of the Month.” - from Media notes supplied by Greg Giombarrese - BlueClaws Director of Communications


Florida State League ( Low A )  Palm Beach 10 (26-33, 63-61) Clearwater 3 (33-28, 77-49)

West Palm Beach - The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches


Summary :


A single, error, two stolen bases and a single scored two runs for Palm Beach in the second inning.   A double, two singles and a wild pitch scored two more in the third inning.


Graysen Tarlow hit a two run home run for Palm Beach in the fourth inning.  A walk,  triple and sac fly scored two more.


Raylin Heredia walked in the seventh, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Emaarion Boyd.


Palm Beach scored two more in the seventh on a couple walks and single.


Jordan Dissin homered in the ninth inning. Raylin Heredia tripled, Troy Schreffler hit a sac fly to score him.


On the Hill :


Jonathan Petit went three and a third, eight runs - six earned, seven hits, two walks, two strikeouts.  Paxton Thompson went one and two third innings, no runs, one hit, two strikeouts - one inherited runner scored.  Casey Steward pitched two innings, two runs, one hit, four walks, two strikeouts.  Alex Rao pitched a scoreless inning, one out.


At the Bat :


Raylin Heredia had three hits (two singles & triple). Bryson Ware had two hits. Jordan Dissin homered.
