A FAN’S VIEW: 3B Alec Bohm

An inside look at the Phillies top prospects.

(MLBPipeline lists the top 30 prospects on each team’s website. While biding time waiting for baseball to resume, Steve Potter will provide his views of these young players. A Clearwater resident, his passion is seeing and following these prospects in person. Normally, Spectrum Field and Carpenter Complex are his second homes. 3B Alec Bohm

Phillies # 1 prospect according to MLB.com … 23 years old … 2018 1st round selection out of Wichita State University

We first met Alec shortly after he signed and were witness to his first professional hit, a triple down the right field line on Ashburn Field in a GCL game against the Yankees ... fitting as he grew up a Yankees fan.

Alec can flat out hit, he drives the ball where it’s pitched, will beat shifts by taking pitches the other way, accepts walks and displays great plate discipline, rarely chases ... also possesses excellent bat speed and the ability to drive the ball deep to all fields ... just a really good approach.

Defensively he’s come a long way, the young man is a diligent and dedicated worker ... for the past two off seasons he’s been the first to arrive at Clearwater for pre-camp ... it’s evident he loves to play baseball and has a tremendous motor and desire to excel. I’ve watched practices and game action repeatedly ... have no doubt he can be a good defender at third base, the arm is more than enough, the positioning and footwork have improved immensely ...

Projection : Alec showed this spring that his bat is big league ready, he played almost year round in 2019 starting in January with pre-camp, the minor league season, AFL and then for Team USA ... he’s a quiet fella, let’s his play speak for him ... a no doubt big leaguer who can be a fixture in the middle of the order for multiple years to come ... can be a very special player
