International League ( AAA ) - Norfolk 5 ( 59-67 ) Lehigh Valley 3 ( 69-58 )


Norfolk, VA - Harbor Park


Summary :


Norfolk scored twice in the bottom of the first on a Jacob Nottingham double.  They scored a third inning run on a double by Joseph Ortiz.


Norfolk scored two more in the seventh on a walk and three singles.


Daniel Robertson singled in the top of the ninth, advanced on a walk to Scott Kingery and scored on a double by Dalton Guthrie. Will Toffey hit a sacrifice fly to score Kingery.  Darick Hall doubled to score Guthrie.


On The Hill :


LH Michael Plassmeyer - 5 IP, 3 R - 2 earned, 3 H, 2 BB, 5 K’s - 94 pitches - 59 strikes

RH Jack Perkins - 1 1/3 IP, 2 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 1 K - 43 pitches - 27 strikes

Dalton Guthrie had two doubles, now has 27 for the season.  Will Toffey had two hits including a double. . Darick Hall doubled and walked twice.


Eastern League ( AA ) - Reading 11 ( 54-70, 25-30 ) Hartford 2 ( 71-52, 28-26 )


Hartford, CT - Dunkin Donuts Park


Summary :


Johan Rojas led off the first inning with a double, he scored on a single by Carlos De La Cruz and two errors ( fielding and throwing ) by Hartford’s center fielder.


Carlos De La Cruz singled in the third inning and scored on a double by Wendell Rijo.


Ethan Wilson singled, Aldrem Corredor walked and Luis Garcia pushed a bunt single to load the bases in the 4th inning.  A ground ball force out scored Wilson, Jack Conley doubled to score Corredor.  Johan Rojas doubled to plate two more.  Rojas went to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch.  Wendell Rijo walked and scored on a double by Jhailyn Ortiz.  Ethan a Wilson walked and Aldrem Corredor hit a three run home run.


Hartford scored a 7th inning run on a single, double and wild pitch.


Brenton Doyle homered for Hartford in the 9th inning.


On The Hill :

Johan Rojas had two doubles, scored twice and had two RBIs , Carlos De La Cruz & Ethan Wilson each had two hits.  Wendell Rijo, Jack Conley & Jhailyn Ortiz all doubled.  Aldrem Corredor hit a three run home run.



Notes :

Griff McGarry was used out of the bullpen intentionally to see how he might handle the role - his fast ball was in the 95 to 99 mph range and he was breaking nasty sliders that paralyzed hitters - I’d say he passed the initial exam 🤓

South Atlantic League ( High A ) - Hudson Valley 3 ( 68-55,34-23 ) Jersey Shore 2 ( 46-78, 21-37 )


Wappinger Falls, NY - Dutchess Stadium


Summary :


Hudson Valley scored a run in the third inning on a double ( Kyle Battle ), stolen base and sac fly.


Leandro Pineda doubled and Rixon Wingrove walked in the 6th inning - Pineda scored on a double by Anthony Quirion and Wingrove scored on a single by Nick Matera.


Hudson Valley scored a run in the seventh as Anthony Seigler doubled to score Eduardo Torrealba ( singled ).


HV walked it off in the bottom of the ninth on two walks and a game winning hit over center fielder Jared Carr’s head by Kyle Battle.


On The Hill :


LH Jordi Martinez - 5 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 5 K’s - 75 pitches - 45 strikes - strong Jersey Shore debut

Florida State League ( Low A ) - Clearwater ( 56-65, 21-34 ) Lakeland ( 61-60, 29-26 ) - two games


Lakeland , FL - Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium


Game One - Lakeland 9 Clearwater 0 - seven innings - completion of suspended game from yesterday


Summary :


Lakeland jumped out to an early lead - six consecutive hits - four  singles, a double and a single resulted in a five run first inning.

A very large clap of lighting that made an enormous bang halted play in the top of the third forcing everyone to scramble to safety - the field couldn’t even be covered.  The game was eventually suspended as rain drenched the field.


The game resumed at this point today at 4 PM


The Flying Tigers,  ( the Lakeland facility is built on an old Air Force base so to honor that the team is called “Flying Tigers” as an affiliate of the Detroit Tigers ), sent nine batters to the plate in the fifth inning scoring four runs on five hits, a hit batter and two wild pitches.


On The Hill :

There was a second game scheduled to be played however Mother Nature decided to not cooperate and the game was postponed due to rain.  Doubleheaders on the docket for perhaps both Saturday and Sunday now.
