Friday, July 8th : Minor League Roundup

International League ( AAA ) - Lehigh Valley 6 ( 44-38 ) Rochester 5 ( 43-39 )


Allentown, PA - Coca-Cola Park


Summary :


Scott Kingery doubled in the third inning, he scored on a single by Dalton Guthrie.


Adrian Sanchez doubled in two runs for Rochester in the 4th inning, he then scored on a single by Josh Palacios.


Scott Kingery reached on an error in the fifth inning, he scored on a double by Dalton Guthrie.


Rochester scored two in the sixth, one on an RBI single by Josh Palacios, the other on the standard double steal of second base and home plate.


Dalton Guthrie hit a three run home run in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game scoring Scott Kingery ( walked ) and Ali Castillo ( singled ).  With one out Johan Camargo doubled off the left field wall, Dustin Peterson was intentionally walked.  Josh Ockimey drove the ball over the center fielders head for the walk off win !


On The Hill :


LH Ricardo Sanchez - 5 IP, 3 R, 7 H, 2 BB, 5 K’s - 86 pitches - 52 strikes

Dalton Guthrie had three hits including a double,and home run - he had 5 RBIs.  Scott Kingery & Rafael Marchan doubled.


Notes :


The Phillies announced that LHP Kent Emmanuel has been reinstated from the 60-day IL and optioned to triple-A. To make room on the 40-man roster, LHP  Sam Clay was designated for assignment. Johan Camargo was assigned to the roster on rehab.





Eastern League ( AA ) - Reading 4 ( 35-44, 6-4 ) Richmond 2 ( 43-36, 3-7 ) - ten innings


Richmond, VA - The Diamond


Summary :


Richmond’s Brandon Martorano doubled down the left field line in the seventh inning to score pinch runner Brett Auerbach ( ran for Sean Roby who had walked ).


Kevin Vicuna singled in the 8th inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jonathan Guzman.  Simon Muzziotti walked.  Johan Rojas laced a single to center field that scored Vicuna and sent Muzziotti to third.  Wendell Rijo singled to score Muzziotti.


Richmond tied the game in the bottom of the 8th as Diego Rincones doubled to score Michael Giglioti ( walked ).

In the top of the 10th Jonathan Guzman put down a sacrifice bunt that Richmond’s first baseman threw down the right field line allowing placed runner Kevin Vicuna to score and Guzman to get to second.  A fly out moved Guzman to third, he scored on a sacrifice flyout by Simon Muzziotti.


On The Hill :

South Atlantic League ( High A ) - Hudson Valley 6 ( 42-37, 8-5 ) Jersey Shore 3 ( 27-51, 2-10 )


Lakewood, NJ - ShoreTown Ballpark


Summary :


Hudson Valley loaded the bases on walks in the first inning, they scored a run on a sacrifice fly out on which left fielder Baron Radcliff made a diving catch.


Trey Sweeney hit a two run home run for Hudson Valley in the second inning.  Cooper Bowman walked and scored on a triple to center field by Everson Pereira that center fielder Jared Carr had jarred from his glove as he hit the fence, Pereira was thrown at the plate attempting to gain an inside the ballpark home run.


Carlos De La Cruz hit a three run home run in the 4th inning scoring Casey Martin ( singled ) and Ethan Wilson ( walked ) in front of him.


Everson Pereira hit a 425 foot home run in the 5th inning for HV.


The game went into a short rain delay with two outs in the top of the 7th inning.


Trey Sweeney tripled to knock in a run for HV in the 9th.


On The Hill :

Notes :


It looked to me like Matt Martin - newly hired Special Assistant to the Director of Player Development was in the stands behind the plate along with Player Development Director Preston Mattingly.  Martin is a veteran minor and major league coach who has served as a Defensive Coordinator in years past both with the Tigers and Angels organizations.  Also in the stands was Philadelphia Inquirrer writer Alex Coffey.


Florida State League ( Low A ) - Clearwater 7 ( 39-39, 4-9 ) Dunedin 1 ( 35-43, 7-5 )

Summary :


Leandro Pineda singled to lead off the game, he scored on a double by Nick Maton ( rehab assignment ). Marcus Lee Sang singled to score Maton.  Lee Sang stole second base ( 14th ) , went to third on a ground out and scored on a single by Wilfredo Flores.  Micah Yonamine singled to send Flores to third base, Arturo DeFreitas singled to score Flores.  Nicolas Torres singled to score Yonamine.  Erick Brito doubled to score DeFreitas.   The Threshers sent 10 batters to the plate in the six run inning.


Marcus Lee Sang walked in the second inning, went to second on an error, stole third ( 15th SB ) and scored on a sacrifice fly out by Micah Yonamine.


Juan Gonzalez homered for Dunedin in the 5th inning.


On The Hill :

Summary :


Jordan Viars led off the game with a home run. The Phillies then loaded the bases as Rickardo Perez singled, Diego Gonzalez was hit by a pitch and  Yemal Flores walked.  Randy Vasquez walked to score a run.


Justin Williams ( rehab assignment ) homered in the second inning.


Felix Reyes & Diego Gonzalez singled in the third inning  - they scored when Yemal Flores clubbed a three run home run.


Felix Reyes reached on an error in the seventh, moved to second on a walk by Yemal Flores and scored on a double by Randy Vasquez.


Clayton Campbell homered for the Tigers in their half of the seventh.


Lou Helmig singled in the 9th inning and advanced to third base on a throwing error, he scored on a single by Albert Rodriquez.


The Tigers loaded the bases in the ninth inning - Carlos Pelegrín tripled, Clayton Campbell walked and Cesar Calderon was hit by a pitch.  They stranded the bases without scoring on a fly out that ended the game.


On The Hill :

Tex Blue 10 ( 17-7 ) Phillies Red 4 ( 14-9 )


Summary :


The Rangers scored twice in the second inning on two singles and a double ( Echedry Vargas ).


Julio Pinto doubled to score two Rangers runs in the third inning.


After they loaded the bases with singles in the fourth inning Marcos Torres singled to score three runs.


Kleimer Lemos singled to score Miguel Ojeda Jr ( doubled ) in the 5th inning for Tex Blue.


Marcos Torres hit a two run home run for the Rangers in the 6th inning.


Solardo Torres doubled in the seventh inning, Arquedion Muller walked & moved to second on a passed ball.  Aroon Escobar singled to score two runs.


Yemil Rosario was hit by a pitch & Arquedion Muller walked in the 9th, they moved up a base on a double steal, both scored on a single by Aroon Escobar.


On The Hill :


RH Fernando Ortega - 3 IP, 4 R - 2 earned,  4 H, 3 BB, 5 K’s

Summary :


The Phillies scored three runs in the first inning - Nolan Beltran & Dariam Gutierrez singled, Manolfi Jimenez doubled to score them both.  Raylin Heredia doubled to score Jimenez.


The Rangers scored three in the second inning - Josue Romero tripled to score two runs, a wild pitch scored Romero.


Dariam Gutierrez & Manolfi Jimenez singled in the third inning,  Raylin Heredia singled to score Gutierrez.


Dariam Gutierrez & Manolfi Jimenez walked in the 5th inning, Raylin Heredia doubled to score Gutierrez.  Angel Mata singled to score Jimenez & Heredia.


Tex Red scored a run in the 6th on a single, ground out, wild pitch & ground out.   They scored four in the 8th - three on a home run by Yeremi Cabrera.


The Phillies won in the bottom of the ninth on a walkoff - Raylin Heredia reached on an error, Derek Escobar walked and Jorge Garcia singled to load the bases.  Two runs scored when Juan Villavicencio grounded into a force out at second base with one out - on the turn throw to first base attempting a double play the Rangers first baseman committed a fielding error.


On The Hill :

Manolfi Jimenez & Raylin Heredia each had three hits.  Heredia had three RBIs, Jimenez two.  Nolan Beltran & Dariam Gutierrez each had two hits, Gutierrez walked twice.  Heredia had two doubles, Jimenez & Beltran one each.


Today at the Complex


We watched RHP Sam Coonrad throw a live BP session - an up-down simulated two inning stint with 20 pitches in the first frame and 15 pitches in the second.  His fastball range was 95-97 mph - looked strong.  He faced three hitters - Hao Yu Lee, Jadiel Sanchez & Nikau Pouaka Grego.
