Today in Minor League Spring Training Camp : last day

Writer: Steve PotterSteve Potter

Today was the final day of 2023 Spring Training - I can attest that I made it to either the complex or stadium every day for both major and minor league camps.  We saw multiple practices, games and side sessions - now on to the regular season as well as watching players who will continue to train in the Phillies Development Center Camp.

In the coming days we will post articles on the affiliate rosters and have already began our daily minor league roundup articles covering affiliate games in their respective leagues ( Lehigh Valley opened yesterday ).

Following are observations from today’s activities.

Side Bullpens :

Seven pitchers threw side bullpen sessions on the seven mounds in front of the David Montgomery Training Center, two threw in the pitching lab, pitchers who threw today - Cam Wynne, Wen-Hui Pan, Micah Ottenbreit ( fifteen pitches ), Christian McGowan ( 10 pitches - short box ), Nathan Karaffa, Starlyn Castillo, Drew Garrett ( 20 pitches ), Jhordany Mezquita ( fifteen pitches ) and Blake Brown ( fifteen pitches ).

Intra-Squad Scrimmage

In a last day tuneup before breaking camp two squads played two innings on Roberts Field.

LH Christopher Sanchez threw two innings, LH Mason Ronan and RH Seth Nightingale threw an inning each.

Sanchez allowed just a single and struck out four in his outing.  Nightingale struck out the side in his frame.

Felix Reyes and Jack Conley hit doubles in the contest and Cole Moore singled.

Note : I've partnered  with Fanatics on Phillies Merchandise - if you would like to help support my website and articles here's a link to order merchandise - I get a small commission on any sales - thanks for the support.
