Wednesday, 6/22/22 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) - Norlfolk 7 ( 33-25 ) Lehigh Valley 6 ( 37-31 ) Norfolk


Allentown, PA - Coca-Cola Park


Summary :


Dustin Peterson doubled in the second inning, he scored on a double by Rafael Marchan. Will Toffey doubled to score Marchan. Daniel Robertson walked and went to third when Drew Maggi singled to score Toffey. Robertson scored on a balk. Dalton Guthrie singled to score Maggi.


Norfolk loaded the bases on walks in the fifth inning, Shed Long Jr singled to score two runs.


Norfolk scored one run in the seventh on two walks and an RBI single by Anthony Bemboom. They plated two runs in the 8th as they loaded the bases on two walks and a single - Jonathan Arauz singled to score two. Zach Warren relieved Jake Newberry and was able to hold Norfolk off and limit the damage to just the two runs.


The Iron Pigs loaded the bases in the bottom of the 8th with one out on a walk ( Maggi ), hit batter (Robertson ) and infield single by Mickey Moniak. Dalton Guthrie walked to score a run. A 4-6-3 double play ended the inning.


Terrin Vavra walked to lead off the ninth for Norfolk, Jordan Westburg doubled off the right field wall to score him and went to third when center fielder Mickey Moniak bobbled the ball. A sac fly by Gunnar Henderson scored Westburg.


Every batter in the game for both sides reached base at least once. The game was played in an off and on rain all night, a heavy rain in the last inning.


With two outs in the bottom of the ninth Will Toffey walked, went to second on an errant pickoff throw and to third on an infield single by Scott Kingery however the game ended on a fly out.

Eastern League ( AA ) - Reading 9 ( 29-36 ) Binghamton 3 ( 24-41 )

Summary :


Vito Friscia led off the game with a walk, he advanced to third on a double by Josh Ockimey and scored on a groundout by Logan O’Hoppe. Jhailyn Ortiz then blasted one over the left field wall to score two more runs.

Ali Castillo singled to score Jonathan Guzman ( walked & advanced to 3B on walk & groundout ).


Binghamton scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth, two singles and an error ( Jhailyn Ortiz ) put runners on first and third. A double by Jeremy Vasquez scored them both, a back to back double by Zach Ashford scored Vasquez.


Josh Ockimey singled and Logan O’Hoppe reached on an error in the 7th - they advanced on a ground out and both scored on a single by Aldrem Corredor.


Chris Sharpe tripled in the top of the 8th and scored on a single by Vito Friscia. Josh Ockimey singled, Logan O’Hoppe singled to score both Friscia and Ockimey. Jhailyn Ortiz singled - O’Hoppe tried to score but was thrown out at the plate.


On The Hill :

Josh Ockimey & Aldrem Corredor each had three hits. Jonathan Guzman doubled & tripled. Ockimey doubled. Chris Sharpe tripled and Jhailyn Ortiz had two hits including a homer ( 12th )

South Atlantic League ( High A ) - Jersey Shore 5 ( 25-40 ) Brooklyn 3 ( 29-36 )


Brooklyn, NY - Maimonides Park


Summary :


Carlos De La Cruz singled to lead off the game, he went to third on a single by Ethan Wilson & later scored on a passed ball. Wilson stole second base and advanced to third on the same passed ball. Rixon Wingrove singled to score Wilson.


Rixon Wingrove was hit by a pitch on his back foot in the 5th inning, he scored on a monster shot over the left field wall by DJ Stewart. 💪


Baron Radcliff doubled in the sixth inning, went to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch.


Brooklyn scored a run in the sixth on a walk and two singles.


Griff McGarry was dominant thru five innings till he tired in the sixth - at one point he struck out 8 consecutive hitters. His fastball was consistent in the 94-97 range and flashed 98 mph plus he commanded the slider -made a lot of “pitcher’s pitches” - on the corners in un-hit-able spots with big time movement. Best we’ve seen him !


Brooklyn scored a run in the seventh on a walk, ground out and fielding error by second baseman Uziel Viloria.


Matt Rudick doubled to score Tanner Murphy ( singled ) with two outs in the bottom of the 9th for Brooklyn.


On The Hill :

Casey Martin had two hits. Baron Radcliff doubled and DJ Stewart homered.


Johan Rojas was caught stealing for the first time this season in the third inning attempting to take third. He had previously stolen 31 bags without being caught.

Tampa, FL - George M Steinbrenner Field


Summary :


Tampa scored a first inning run on two walks, a wild pitch and RBI single by Anthony Garcia. Grant Richardson hit a solo home run for Tampa in the second inning.


The Threshers loaded the bases on walks in the fifth inning, Leandro Pineda singled to score two runs.


Donny Sands hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.


Tampa tied the game in the bottom of the 8th - Roberto Chirinos doubled, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sac fly by Alexander Vargas.


Rodolfo Sanchez pitched in and out of a two on no out jam in the ninth to send the game into extra innings.


Erick Brito singled to send placed runner Jamari Baylor to third in the top of the tenth. Leandro Pineda hit a sac fly to score him.


Rodolfo Sanchez retired all three batters he faced in the bottom of the 10th, two by strikeout to close out the win !
