Wednesday, 8/31/22  : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) - Norfolk 4 ( 58-66 ) Lehigh Valley 1 ( 68-57 )


Norfolk, VA - Harbor Park


Summary :


Norfolk scored two runs in the first inning on a walk, single, throwing error and double ( Jacob Nottingham ).  Starting pitcher Kent Emmanuel left the game after the double ( ball was a line drive to center that was misplayed ) - seemed to be having shoulder discomfort the pitches before that.  Left the field before the trainer could come out after conferring with the skipper.


Will Toffey struck out to lead off the 5th inning but reached on a passed ball.  He went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Daniel Robertson.


Jordan Westburg hit a solo home run for Norfolk in the bottom of the 5th inning.


Norfolk scored a run in the 7th on a single and three walks with a walk forcing a run across.


On The Hill :

Eastern League ( AA ) - Hartford 7 ( 70-51, 27-25 ) Reading 5 ( 53-69, 24-29 )


Hartford, CT - Dunkin Donuts Park


Summary :


Wendell Rijo doubled in the first inning and scored on a single by Jhailyn Ortiz.


Hartford scored twice in the second inning on two singles and a double ( Julio Carreras ).


Wendell Rijo doubled in the third inning and scored on a home run by Jhailyn Ortiz ( 17th ).


Johan Rojas singled in the 4th inning, stole second and scored on a double by Carlos De La Cruz.


Hunter Stoval doubled in the bottom of the fourth for Hartford, went to third on a single by Willie MacIver and scored on a fielding error charged to second baseman Kevin Vicuna but was a ball misplayed by short stop Luis Garcia - should have been a double play grounder - Luis bobbled it and made a hastened flip to second that Vicuna couldn’t come up with.


Brenton Doyle hit a two run home run for Hartford in the 5th inning.


Carlos De La Cruz hit an opposite field home run in the top of the 7th inning wrapping it around the foul pole.


Grant Lavigne homered for Hartford in the bottom of the 7th.


Hartford scored an unearned run in the 8th - walk, wild pitch, advance on a ground out and catching error on a third strike thrown to first base - runner scored.


On The Hill :


LH Ethan Lindow - 5 IP, 5 R, 7 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s - 86 pitches - 60 strikes

RH Tyler McKay - 2 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 1 HB, 3 K’s - 36 pitches - 19 strikes

Jhailyn Ortiz had three hits ( two singles & a HR - 3 RBIs ).  Ethan Wilson had three hits ( all singles ) including a beautiful push bunt knock. Carlos  De La Cruz had two hits ( double & HR ) and two RBIs. Wendel Rijo had three hits ( single & 2 doubles )

Game One - Jersey Shore 10 Hudson Valley 7 completion of yesterday’s suspended game


Summary :


Grant Richardson hit a home run for Hudson Valley in the second inning.


Baron Radcliff hit a home run in the third inning scoring Jared Carr ( doubled ) and Leandro Pineda ( HBP ) in front of him.


Trey Sweeney homered for Hudson Valley in the bottom of the third.


Baron Radcliff hit his 2nd home run of the game in the 6th inning scoring Jared Carr ( walked ) in front of him.  After Kendall Simmons walked Rixon Wingrove hit a two run home run.


The game went into rain delay in the middle of the 5th inning.


The game resumed today at this point


The Blue Claws loaded the bases in the seventh - Leandro Pineda doubled, Baron Radcliff walked and Kendall Simmons singled.  A run scored on a bases loaded walk to Rixon Wingrove.


Tyler Hardman hit a three run home run for Hudson Valley in the seventh inning.


Kendall Simmons walked in the 9th inning - he scored on a triple by Rixon Wingrove - he hit a ball to center field that the center fielder misplayed - charged in and the ball bounced high off the turf over his head and rolled to the wall.  Anthony Quirion singled past a drawn in infield to score Wingrove.


On The Hill :


RH Victor Vargas - 4 IP, 4 R, 5 H, 1 BB, 1 K - 61 pitches - 33 strikes

RH Cristian Hernandez - 2 1/3 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 K’s - 32 pitches - 18 strikes

LH Erubiel Armenta - 1 1/3 IP, 2 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s - 34 pitches - 20 strikes - one inherited runner scored

Baron Radcliff hit two home runs ( now has 16 for the season ), had five RBIs and scored twice.  Kendall Simmons had two hits.  Rixon Wingrove had two hits - triple & home run ( 10th ) and walked - had four RBIs.  Jared Carr & Leandro Pineda doubled.

Game Two : Jersey Shore 2 Hudson Valley 1 - scheduled for seven innings - went  8 innings


Summary :


Rixon Wingrove doubled in the second inning and scored when Arturo DeFreitas reached on a throwing error by the Hudson Valley second baseman.


Jared Carr singled in the third inning and attempted to score on a double by Baron Radcliff down the left field line but was thrown out at the plate on a strong relay throw by HV shortstop Trey Sweeney.


Tyler Hardman homered for Hudson Valley in the fourth inning.


Hudson Valley loaded the bases with one out  in the 6th inning on a hit batter and two walks. Joel Cesar bore down however and struck out the next two batters to escape unscathed.


The game went into extra innings in a 1-1 tie.


Nicolas Torres was the placed runner to start the 8th, he was bunted over to third base by Jared Carr and scored on a single by Baron Radcliff.


Rodolfo Sanchez closed it out with two scoreless frames.


On The Hill :


RH Carlo Reyes - 4 2/3 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 6 K’s - 75 pitches - 46 strikes

Phillies White 4 Rockies 1 - 10 innings - series tied 1-1


Summary :


The Rockies scored a run in the third inning - Juan Castillo doubled and scored on a single by Derek Bernard.


Raylin Heredia walked in the 4th inning, stole second base and scored on a single by Brahian Silva.


The game went into a brief rain delay with one out in the top of the 8th inning however play resumed.


The score was tied 1-1 after nine innings of play - went into extra innings.


The Phillies scored three runs in the top of the tenth - placed runner Derek Escobar was bunted over to third by Leanardo Rondon who also reached first on the play.  William Bergolla singled to score Escobar.  Marco Soto singled to load the bases.  Jarol Martinez singled to score Rondon,  Raylin Heredia singled to score Bergolla.


The deciding game of the series and the crowning of the league championship will take place tomorrow.


On The Hill :
