Notes :
RHP Mychal Givens started the game for Syracuse on rehab assignment. He pitched a perfect inning, striking out two batters.
Manager Anthony Contreras had some fun the last two frames with defensive changes - Darick Hall played right field ( although he’s done that before and can do so effectively) and Ali Castillo caught the 8th inning of the game for the Iron Pigs, he pitched in the 9th inning retiring the last batter for the final out - by catching today he has now played all nine fielding positions in his career 😳.
Actually Ali played all nine defensive positions today in the game - I was watching the hurricane updates and didn’t realize that 🤪
Former Phillie Note :
Last night RHP Enyel De Los Santos threw an immaculate inning ( nine pitches - nine strikes - three strike outs ) for the Cleveland Guardians in their game against the Tampa Rays. De Los Santos has been a big part of the Cleveland bullpen - ( 47 games - 50 1/3 IP - 3.04 ERA - 57 K’s, 16 BB, 1.07 WHIP, 2 saves in 2 opportunities ). Enyel was designated for assignment by the Phillies in September of 2021 and claimed by the Pirates whom he finished the season with - he declared free agency over the 2021 off-season after being out-righted by the Pirates and signed with Cleveland in December. This season he’s been much more consistent than in years past focusing on a four seam fastball primarily ( sits 94 to 95 mph - which the Phillies had also pushed for him to do ) along with a slider ( 84 mph ) and changeup ( 87 mph ). Another young player ( 26 years old ) who developed in the Phillies Minor League system - one that supposedly was void of talent 🤦♂️😎. Just Sayin
Hurricane Ian :
So far we’ve avoided issues here in the Clearwater area but our friends in Fort Myers and surrounding places to the south of us are taking a pounding as I write this - hope for the best for all those folks.
