1/17/2021 : Winter League Recap - games from 1/16/21

Australia :

Adelaide :

Austin Ross threw two scoreless innings in relief allowing just one hit to post his first ABL victory for the Adelaide Giants in a 3-2 extra inning win against Brisbane. Jonathan Hennigan also threw 1 1/3 scoreless frames in relief allowing just a walk while striking out one batter.

Kendall Simmons singled and scored a run for the Giants with Cornelius Randolph and Mitchell Edwards also singled. The Edwards hit was a well placed intended sacrifice bunt in the eighth and final inning towards third base that he was able to leg out.

An interesting tidbit : Extra innings in the ABL start with placed runners on both first and second base.

In game two of the doubleheader Rixon Wingrove doubled and Luke Williams singled for Adelaide however the team was held to six hits in total in a 5-1 loss to Brisbane. The Bandits victory broke a nine game losing streak against Adelaide.

Melbourne :

Josh Tols recorded his first save of the season with a perfect inning of relief in Melbourne’s 3-1 victory over Canberra.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
