Workouts continued for camp participants. While the emphasis is on strength training and conditioning the winter version of HP Camp has far more baseball practice activities that the Fall version.

Most every camp day starts with scheduled group meetings for the pre-designated work groups followed by baseball activities. Generally the work groups are divided into position player and pitcher units. Throwing and fielding drills are scheduled for all units - pitchers who are working side bullpens for the day are omitted from the drills to focus on their side session, their prep throwing is individualized. The camp allows for such individualized work with players to establish and focus on specific plans for them - for example some of the batting cage work is also isolated for hitters on a revolving schedule basis.

Pitching side bullpens are already on the camp agenda - it’s expected that hurlers are in shape and ready to get to work when they arrive - it’s also not left to chance as individual plans were established for each pitcher to follow and check ins were conducted while they were at home working on their own. I’ve watched this process evolve over the years I’ve covered and written about Phillies player development and can attest that it is very well run with strong attention to detail - it’s really impressive and is a testament to the pitching coaches and coordinators as well as to the pitchers.

Today right handers Gage Wood, Ryan Dromboski, Aaron Combs, Gabe Craig, Ryan Cusick, Ryan Degges, Luke Gabrysh, Saul Teran, Brian Walters and lefties Andrew Walling and James Tallon tossed their first side bullpen sessions. Good stuff!

After field work completed players were scheduled for conditioning and strength training. Also each day breakfast and lunch are catered for camp participants - on Friday’s special treats have been known to happen, e.g. Ice Cream trucks - I’m still waiting to get my milkshake that I was promised last summer 🤪😂👀. just sayin.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
