The Phillies have reportedly agreed to a one year major league contract ( means he will be on the 40 man roster ) worth $ 3 million with 31 year old LHP Matt Moore.
Moore pitched in Japan during the 2020 season. Moore was on a one-year deal with the Fukuoka Hawks that paid $2.28 million ... his 2019 contract with the Tigers was $2.5 million. Moore’s velocity was reportedly in the 93 to 95 range mph which was slightly higher than his best MLB season in 2013 . His primary pitches are a fastball and cutter along with a curve and change. He also has a hard slider in his repertoire.
He’s pitched parts of nine seasons in the major leagues with the Rays, Giants, Rangers and Tigers. His best season by far was in 2013 with the Rays when he recorded a 17-4 record in 27 starts with a 3.29 ERA in 150.1 IP. He struggled to find that same consistency beyond that year however did record 13 wins in 2016 between the Rays and Giants.
Matt was 6-3 in 15 games ( 85 IP ) with a 2.65 ERA in Japan during the 2020 season. The reports back were positive and he’s said to be fully healthy ... completely recovered from a knee injury suffered in 2019.
He will come to 2021 Spring Training eyeing a spot in the starting rotation.
From a fan’s view welcome to the Phillies Matt !
