1/30/2021 : Winter League Recap
Melbourne 22 Brisbane 2
Former Phillie Delmon Young doubled and homered and pitched a scoreless ninth inning in the historically lopsided win for Melbourne. The Aces shortstop Darryl George hit two grand slams in the game amassing 10 RBIs in total in a four hit performance 😳. Former Phillie Gift Ngoepe added three hits for Melbourne.
The Perth Heat defeated Adelaide 7-1 in game one of a double header limiting the Giants to four hits. In game two Rixon Wingrove had three hits for Adelaide including two home runs and a double driving in four runs to lead them to a 7-6 win. Rixon has now taken over the league leadership in home runs ... his second homer of the game turned out to be the game winner as he delivered the game tying blast in the top of the seventh inning.
Kendall Simmons and Mitchell Edwards each had two hits for Adelaide in game two and Luke Williams extended his hitting streak to four games with knocks in each contest.
Austin Ross turned in a dominant performance on the hill in game two with two perfect innings of relief striking out five batters 💪👏. He’s consistently been in the 92-94 range in velocity combining that with solid secondary deliveries. Jonathan Hennigan also continued his stellar pitching as he threw two more shutout/hitless innings allowing just two walks while striking out three batters 👍. Jonathan recorded his first ABL win. Ross and Hennigan are the only two pitchers in the league with 6 or more appearances who’ve yet to yield an earned run.
Former Phillies minor leaguer LHP Anthony Vasquez pitched six innings ( 1 R, 7 H, 2 BB, 5 K’s ) to post his second win of the series for Culiacan as they defeated Hermosillo 6-2 to tie the best of seven championship series at three games apiece. The two teams will meet in the decisive game seven today at 6 PM MST.
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
