This Phillies off-season I will continue the series “Annual Phillies Minor League Player Notes” with profiles presented in groupings by defensive positions for the players who were still part of the minor league player development program at season’s end. The notes will reflect statistics, my thoughts on each player and input from them and others as I have it. They are presented in order by position and then alphabet in groupings of players per article. Here’s Part Fourteen of the pitchers highlighting the following :
Wesley Moore
Gabe Mosser
Mitch Neunborn
Cade Obermueller
Micah Ottenbreit
LH Wesley Moore - 26 years old (27 on 9/5/26) - signed as an un-drafted free agent 11/9/22 - Kansas State
2025 Stats : began the season with Reading - pitched in 8 games (7.2 IP) - 7.04 ERA, 9 K’s, 6 BB - sent to Jersey Shore on 5/13 - finished the season there - 25 games (30.1 IP) with a 5.04 ERA, 27 K’s, 19 walks.
2025 Notes : struggled to throw strikes as consistently for first time in career - 59% strike rate as compared to 65% first two seasons. Wesley attended and played for Vauxhall High School in Vauxhall, Alberta, Canada as well as the Team Canada Junior National Team, pitched in the 18U World Cup as a teenager. Spent his first two collegiate seasons at California State University Northridge before transferring to Kansas State. Wesley thought he had an extra season of eligibility at KSU however the NCAA denied it so he signed a late free agent deal with the Phillies. He features a sinking fastball (sits in the 92 to 94 mph range), curve and changeup with the change being a plus pitch, it is a swing and miss delivery. He has very good speed differential with the change-up off the fastball. His release point and arm speed are usually aligned on all of his pitches, hides the ball, making it difficult to distinguish the various pitches out of his hand.
RH Gabe Mosser - 29 years old (30 on 6/8/26) - signed as a free agent 11/13/24
2025 Stats : began the season with Reading - made 8 starts (41.1 IP) with a 5.01 ERA, 50 K’s and 13 walks. Promoted to Lehigh Valley on 5/27 - made 17 starts (83.1 IP) with a 5.29 ERA - 77 K’s, 36 walks - overall threw 124.2 innings in 25 starts - 5.20 ERA - 127 K’s, 49 walks
2025 Notes : grew up as a Phillies fan, is from Laurys Station, PA and attended Parkland High School in Allentown where he earned all-state honors his senior year when he recorded a school-record 106 strikeouts. He then pitched four collegiate seasons at Shippensburg University. Has a 3/4 arm slot delivery, is known as being a strike thrower who won’t beat himself, good control of deliveries along with command of a four pitch mix. Features a sinker (91-94 mph), sweeper, cutter and splitter. Go to pitch is the sweeper. Gabe is a minor league free agent this off-season.
RH Mitch Neunborn - 28 years old (29 on 6/27/26) - signed as international free agent 6/5/23 - Australia
2025 Stats : began the year with Reading - made 24 appearances (seven starts) totaling 58 IP with a 5.12 ERA, 62 K’s and 14 walks. Promoted to Lehigh Valley on 8/8 - made 8 starts (30.2 IP) with an 8.80 ERA, 19 K’s, 23 walks. Best month was June - 2.79 ERA in 5 appearances (four starts) in 19.1 IP, 19 K’s, 3 walks.
2025 Notes : features three pitches, a fastball (92 to 95 mph), slider and split finger change up. Throws his splitter with a Vulcan grip between his ring and index finger, reduction in velocity and downward movement, will throw it often and for strikes. Mitch pitched collegiate baseball for Phillies Minor League Pitching Coordinator Travis Hergert at North Iowa Community College. Was born in South Africa - pitched for years in the Australian Baseball League (2018 to 2023) as a stalwart reliever - key member of the 2023 Adelaide Giants championship team. Can either start or relieve - eats up innings.
LH Cade Obermueller - 22 years old (23 on 7/28/26) - drafted in 2nd round of the 2025 draft from University of Iowa
2025 Stats : did not pitch in a game after signing - instead worked at the complex in the draftee mini camp - threw a couple side bullpens in August before breaking camp. He went 5-3 this past season for Iowa with a 3.02 ERA in 15 starts. He notched 117 strikeouts in 83.1 innings. That mark now ranks as the second all-time in Iowa baseball history for strikeouts in a season. In his three year collegiate career pitched in 43 games (40 starts) posting a 3.60 ERA in 165 IP with 226 K’s and 92 walks.
2025 Notes : works from a low arm slot featuring a sinker (sits 91-95 mph) which has reached upper nineties. Secondaries include a sweeping horizontal break slider and change up. He was drafted by the Rangers in the 19th round of the 2024 draft but chose to return to Iowa for another season. Is from Iowa City, Iowa and was an all-state honoree. His father Wes pitched in the major leagues for Kansas City, Milwaukee and the Florida Marlins from 2002 to 2007. Cade runs a pitching academy (Obermueller Pitching Development) with his dad in Iowa City during the off-season. He’s attending Fall High Performance Camp at the Clearwater Complex and is on target to break 2026 spring training camp with a full season club - likely Clearwater. I have yet to see him throw in person.
RH Micah Ottenbreit - 22 years old (23 on 5/7/26) - drafted in 4th round of the 2021 draft from Trenton HS, Michigan
2025 Stats : began the year with Jersey Shore - appeared in six games (24.1 IP) posting a 4.81 ERA with 20 K’s and 4 walks. Went on the IL 5/19 and remained there the balance of the season working with the rehab team in Clearwater at the Complex.
2025 Notes : had a second TJ elbow surgery this past summer after missing most of the 2022 and 2023 seasons after having his initial Tommy John surgery. When he’s healthy is an intriguing prospect - general four pitch mix with a sinker that is in the 90-95 mph range, a curve, changeup and slider - will throw a four seamer on occasion. Micah is a well taught pitcher, has good mechanics which he repeats with seeming ease along with two plus deliveries (sinker & a high spin curve - comes out of his hand like a slurve - big break). He’s an angular hurler at 6’4” who sequences his pitches well. Really nice young man from Michigan who had committed to Michigan State University before choosing to sign with the Phillies. He was a high school standout both on the mound and as a hitter earning all-state honors. Hoping he has a timely and full recovery from his latest injury setback.
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️

Cade Obermueller
