12/15/25 : Phillies sign RHP Lenny Torres to minor league contract

RHP Lenny Torres has signed a minor league contract with the Phillies for the 2026 season. The now 25 year old was the 2018 round CB-A draft selection (#41 overall) by the Cleveland Guardians from Beacon HS in Beacon, New York and was committed to attend St. John’s University before signing with Cleveland for a reported $1.35 million. After spending the initial years of his career with the Guardians organization he became a free agent in November of 2024 and signed with the Cincinnati Reds.
He pitched last season primarily at the AAA level for Louisville (Reds affiliate) where he posted a 6.34 ERA in 43 appearances (44 IP) with 43 K’s and 33 walks. Lenny has been a reliever throughout most of his minor league career - in 2024 he had a strong season for Akron (Guardians AA affiliate) posting a 2.26 ERA in 41 appearances (51.2 IP) with 63 K’s and 24 walks. He’s made 165 minor league appearances (28 starts) with a 4.97 ERA in 257.1 IP with 300 K’s and 176 walks.
Scouting notes on him indicate a big arm with a fastball than sits 95-96 mph but runs up to 98 mph. His offsets are a slider and changeup. Torres missed the 2019 season due to Tommy John surgery. He’s currently pitching for the Leones de Ponce in the Puerto Rico Winter League as he also did in 2023 - this year for the Leones thus far he’s posted a 2.92 ERA in 14 appearances (12.1 IP) with 10 strikeouts and 11 walks - command/control obviously needs to be harnessed but big arms are always intriguing.
