Australian Baseball League :
The Perth Heat ended the Adelaide Giants twelve game winning streak on Friday, 12/16 and then proceeded to win three of the four games in their series.
RHP Starlyn Castillo threw six scoreless frames in the second game of a double header for Adelaide against Perth on 12/17 in a 7-0 victory - “El Koala” improved his record to 3-1 by allowing just 5 hits and no walks while striking out three batters - he threw 68 pitches - 50 for strikes. Starlyn hasn’t allowed a run in his last three starts ( 16 IP ) and has posted 14 Ks while issuing just two walks - he’s posted a 2.35 ERA in 6 games overall ( 23 IP ) with 22 K’s - has a 1.17 WHIP. Shortstop Nick Ward had two hits in the game including a double, Catcher Anthony Quirion had two hits and Rixon Wingrove played third base ( made a couple really nice defensive plays ) - had a double, RBI and scored twice. Outfielder Jared Carr had two hits including a double for Adelaide in their 6-2 first game of the DH loss - he had another knock in game two and two RBIs.
In Sunday’s series finale Rixon Wingrove went 2 for 4 with two doubles while teammate and newly signed Phillie Nick Ward was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk and scored twice in a 15-8 slugfest contest won by Perth.
Dominican Winter League :
Outfielder Jhailyn Ortiz made his debut for Leones del Escogido on 12/11 and went 1 for 3 - he played right field. Former Phillies minor leaguer Jonathan Guzman was 2 for 4 with a double in that same game for Leones - he had two more hits on 12/12.
Outfielder Johan Rojas made his debut on 12/16 playing center field for Tigres del Licey.
Venezuelan Winter League :
Former Phillie Odubel Herrera had three hits for Cardenales de Lara on 12/10 against the Aguilas de Zulia. RHP Carlos Betancourt pitched a perfect inning in that game for Aguilas.
Catcher Rafael Marchan went 2 for 4 for Tiburones de La Guaira on 12/11 against Caribes de Anzoategui.
Puerto Rico Winter League :
RHP Carlos Francisco pitched a scoreless inning in the league all-star game on 12/11. He threw a perfect ninth inning for Indios de Mayaguez on 12/13 to record his first win of the season in a 2-1 victory over Criollos de Caguas.
Former Phillies minor league outfielder Jadiel Sanchez had three hits in the All-Star game.
RHP Yacksel Rios ( a former Phillie ) improved his record to 4-0 with two innings pitched for Criollos de Caguas on 12/17 - for the season he’s posted a 0.44 ERA in 20 1/3 IP
Mexican Winter League :
Former Phillies minor leaguer and now Washington Nationals big leaguer Joey Meneses recently began playing for Tomateros de Culiacan - he’s hitting .294 in 17 AB’s thus far.
LHP Jeff Singer ( played for Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs last season ) has concluded his time with the Sultanes de Monterrey - he pitched in 21 games and threw 23 1/3 innings posting a 5.02 ERA - he’s back home in the states now.
