While major league transactions due to the lockout are frozen the minor leagues continue with business as usual, at least those that involve players not recently removed from 40 man rosters.
The Phillies have signed RHP Andrew Bellatti to a minor league contract. He’s 30 years old and pitched last season for AAA level Jacksonville in the Miami Marlins organization. He appeared in 26 games, all in relief and posted a 1.52 ERA in 29 2/3 IP with 11 saves in 14 chances. Bellatti struck out 38 batters and walked 10 with a WHIP of 0.84. He throws a mid nineties fastball, slider and changeup.
He was the 12th round draft selection of the Tampa Rays in the 2009 draft as a high school senior for Spring Valley, California.
Bellatti made 17 big league appearances with the Rays in 2015 and three with the Marlins in 2021.
He’s also been with the Orioles, Yankees and Marlins after leaving the Rays organization in 2016.
