Notes on Phillies and former Phillies participating in winter leagues.
Australian Baseball League :
12/21/24 action : The Phillies contingent plays for the Adelaide Giants.
Sydney 2 (14-8) Adelaide 0 (13-10)
Second baseman Nikau Pouaka Grego made a couple nice defensive snags on hot hit balls up the middle to record outs. Former Phillies spring training invitee outfielder Jordan McArdle had all three Adelaide hits in the game going 3 for 3 (singles). Catcher Luis Caicuto walked once in three plate appearances.
Dominican Winter League :
12/20/24 action : Rodolfo Castro (3B) went 1 for 4 for Estrellas Orientales in a 6-5 loss to Aguilas Cibaeñas. The other two games scheduled for league play were postponed.
Colombia Winter League :
12/20/24 action : Felix Reyes went 3 for 6 with a run scored for Tigres de Cartagena in double header action against Toros de Sincelero. The Toros won game one 3-2, the second game was suspended with the Toros leading 6-0. Nolan Beltran was 0 for 1 coming off the bench for Tigres de Cartagena in a 13-4 loss to Vaqueros de Monteria.
Venezuela Winter League :
12/20/24 action : former Phillies minor league RHP Mario Sanchez pitched six innings (1 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 6 K’s) for Aguilas del Zulia in a 5-4 ten inning victory over Cardenales de Lara. Pedro Martinez (2B) went 1 for 3 with a walk for Bravos de Margarita in a 5-4 win against Caribes de Anzoategui.
Mexican Pacific League :
12/20/24 action : former Phillies minor league first baseman Kyle Martin hit a three run home run for Cañeros de Los Mochis in a 5-3 win over Mayos de Navojoa. Luis Verdugo played shortstop and went 0 for 4 for Tomateros de Culiacán in a 4-3 win against Sultanes de Monterrey.
Panama Winter League :
12/20/24 action : all games were cancelled due to rain.
Puerto Rico Winter League :
12/20/24 action : former Phillies minor league outfielder Cornelius Randolph made his league debut for Senadores de San Juan going 2 for 3 with a walk and run scored in a 4-0 win against Gigantes de Carolina. He’s played the past two summers in the independent American Association league. While he’s not a former Phillie I found it interesting that 36 year old free agent LHP Danny Duffy who hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2021 started for Cangrejeros de Santurce in his 2024 league debut going 1.2 innings (1 R, 1 H, 3 BB, 3 K’s) - a bit rusty with command - it’s the second consecutive winter season that Duffy has come to Puerto Rico to pitch - last spring it earned him a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers - he was released in May.
Other News :
Former Phillies RHP Luis Ortiz and minor league LHP Anthony Gose signed minor league deals with the New York Mets.
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
