Notes on Phillies and former Phillies participating in winter leagues from games played on 12/29. Current Phillies bolded and underlined.
Dominican Winter League :
Round Robin Playoff Tournament : RHP Aneurys Zabala pitched a perfect inning (2 K’s) for the Leones del Escogido (3-0) in a 4-2 win over the Gigantes del Cibao (0-3). The Gigantes dismissed their manager after the game. Johan Rojas (CF) was 0 for 4 for the Gigantes. Bryan De La Cruz (RF) was 1 for 3 (single) with two walks for the Toros del Este (2-1) in a 7-6 win over the Aguilas Cibaenas (1-2).
Mexican Winter League :
Joey Meneses (1B) was 2 for 5 (singles) with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Tomateros de Culiacán in a 10-8 win over the Jaguares de Nayarit. RHP Orlando Gonzalez pitched 2/3 of an inning (3 unearned R, 3 H - 22 pitches - 13 strikes) for the Naranjeros de Hermosillo in a 7-1 loss to the Yaquis de Obregón.
Venezuela Winter League :
Wild Card Playoff Series : RHP Cristian Hernandez pitched 1.1 innings (2 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s) for the Caribes de Anzoategui in a 5-4 loss to the Tigres de Aragua. The two teams play again today to determine which one advances to the five team round robin playoff tournament.
Puerto Rico Winter League :
The Criollos de Caguas defeated the Indios de Mayaguez 4-0 in the wild card game to qualify for the league playoffs eliminating the defending league champions from post season play. RHP Yacksel Rios pitched a perfect inning to close out the win for the Criollos. LHP Keylan Killgore pitched a scoreless frame (1 H, 3 K’s) for the Indios. The league playoffs start on January 2nd.
