Notes on Phillies and former Phillies participating in fall/winter leagues from games played on 12/4 (12/5 for Australia). Current Phillies bolded and underlined.
Australian Baseball League :
RHP Giussepe Velasquez pitched three scoreless innings in relief (0 H, 1 BB, 4 K’s - 39 pitches - 27 strikes) for the Adelaide Giants in a 6-1 win against the Brisbane Bandits. Alirio Ferrebus hit a three run home run, Devin Saltiban (CF) went 1 for 3 (single) with a walk, HBP, two stolen bases and a run scored. RHP Danyony Pulido pitched 2/3 of an inning (1 unearned R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K - 24 pitches - 13 strikes) and Nick Ward (2B) went 2 for 4 (single & double) with an RBI and HBP. RHP Todd Van Steensel pitched a perfect inning (2 K’s) to close out the win for the Giants.
Dominican Winter League :
Johan Rojas (CF) went 3 for 5 (singles) with two runs scored for the Gigantes del Cibao in a 7-5 win over the Toros del Este. Bryan De La Cruz (RF) was 1 for 3 (single) for the Toros and RHP Franklyn Kilome pitched a perfect inning (1 K) in relief. LHP Jhordany Mezquita pitched two innings (1 R, 2 H, 1 K) for the Aguilas Cibaenas in a 4-1 win over the Leones del Escogido.
Mexican Winter League :
Luis Verdugo (SS) went 2 for 4 (single & HR) with three RBIs and two runs scored for the Tomateros de Culiacán in a 13-2 win over the Naranjeros de Hermosillo. RHP Manuel Urias pitched 3.1 innings (0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 4 K’s) for the Cañeros de Los Mochis in a 6-4 win against the Yaquis de Obregón.
Venezuela Winter League :
Herlis Rodriquez (CF) was 2 for 4 (double & triple) with two runs scored for the Caribes de Anzoategui in a 5-1 victory over the Leones del Caracas. Jose Gomez (3B-SS) went 2 for 3 (singles) for the Navegantes del Magallanes in a 7-0 win against the Tigres de Aragua. Ali Castillo (2B-1B) was 3 for 5 (singles) with two RBIs for the Aguilas del Zulia in a 8-4 win over the Tiburones de La Guaira.
Puerto Rico Winter League :
RHP Andrew Baker pitched a scoreless inning (1 H, 1 BB) and RHP Jose Peña Jr pitched 1.1 innings (1 R, 1 H, 3 BB, 2 K’s) for the Cangrejeros de Santurce in a 8-4 win against the Indios de Mayaguez. LHP Keylan Killgore pitched 2/3 of an inning (1 R, 2 H, 1 BB) for the Indios. RHP Yacksel Rios pitched a perfect inning for the Criollos de Caguas in a 1-0 win over the Leones de Ponce. William Simoneit (C) went 2 for 3 (singles) for the Leones.
Colombian Winter League :
The league began play this season in late November with four teams. The only Phillie/former Phillie I’ve found playing in the league are current Phillies minor league infielder Nolan Beltran along with former Phillies RHP Felix Paulino.
Nicaragua Winter League :
The league re-branded itself after shutting down last summer and opened play in early November with five teams - the regular season concludes on 12/20/25. The only Phillie/former Phillie I’ve found playing in the league is infielder Raul Rivas who is once again playing for the Indios del Boer club where he played last season as well. In 19 games thus far Rivas has posted a .377/.571/.424 slash line with a .995 OPS with 5 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs and 10 RBIs. He leads the league in hits and is second in batting average as well as fifth in OBP. The 29 year old Rivas has played in various international leagues - he was with the Phillies from 2015 to 2020 after signing as an international free agent from Venezuela on 2/12/15.
Other Off-Season Notes :
RHP Eiberson Castellano has signed a minor league contract with the Colorado Rockies.
