Major League Practice : Day Four - Pitchers and Catchers :
Nine pitchers threw side bullpens on the seven mounds - Jose Alvarado, Tanner Banks, Genesis Cabrera, Yoniel Curet, Tucker Davidson, Jhoan Duran, Seth Johnson, Lou Trivino, Taijuan Walker and Bryse Wilson.
Zach McCambley threw a live BP inside the stadium.
Catchers did their fielding, throwing and hitting practices on Roberts Field before
bullpens.
Camp Spotlight : Big League Bullpen Possibilities
The Phillies have stockpiled veteran relievers to compete for opening day roster spots in the bullpen. With presumably five spots locked (Jose Alvarado Tanner Banks, Orion Kerekering, Jhoan Duran, Brad Keller) and with Taijuan Walker likely opening the season as a starter until Zack Wheeler is ready there are three open spots to fill.
Included in the bullpen competition mix are forty man roster occupants Kyle Backhus (LH), Jonathan Bowlan, Yoniel Curet, Nolan Hoffman, Seth Johnson, Max Lazar, Zach McAmbley, Alex McFarlane, Zach Pop and Chase Shugart. Bowlan, Pop and Hernandez are out of options. McAmbley is a rule five selection and must be kept on the roster else be offered back to the Marlins.
In addition non-roster invitees on minor league contracts include Andrew Bechtold, Genesis Cabrera (LH), Jonathan Hernandez, Tim Mayza (LH), Michael Mercado, Trevor Richards, Daniel Robert, Lou Trivino, Andrew Walling (LH) and Bryse Wilson.
Infielders on the Half Field :
Aidan Miller, Christian Cairo, Edmundo Sosa, Bryson Stott and Alex Bohm took ground balls on the half field under the guidance of coaches Larry Bowa, Bobby Dickerson, Adam Everett, Marty Malloy, Shawn Williams and Al Pedrique.
Minor Leagues :
High Performance Camp has concluded - Minor League Mini Camp begins 2/16. Minor leaguers were off today and will be tomorrow as well.
