2/9/23 : Phillies sign two more minor league pitchers

RHP Max Kuhns was signed by the Phillies to a minor league contract on Wednesday, February 8th - the 28 year old was the Mets 21st round draft selection in the 2016 draft out of Santa Clara University.  He was released by the Mets in 2019 but has been pitching in Independent leagues since - he was with Sioux City in the American Association in 2021 & 2022 - appeared in 84 games posting a 3.08 ERA in 119 2/3 innings with 174 strikeouts and 46 walks - this off season he pitched for Mayos de Navajoa in the Mexican League where he appeared in 22 games ( 4.87 ERA in 20 1/3 IP - 23 K’s, 13 BB ). He throws a fastball that’s usually in the 94-96 mph range, a slider ( 84-86 mph ) and change up ( 84-87 mph ).


LHP Kyle Hart has also been signed by the Phillies - he was the Red Sox 19th round draft selection in the 2016 draft from the University of Indiana where he was a teammate of Kyle Schwarber.   Hart appeared in four major league games with the Red Sox in 2020 but otherwise has spent his entire career in the minor leagues.  Last season he pitched at both the AA and AAA levels and posted a 5.25 ERA in 24 games ( 10 starts ) amassing 82 1/3 IP with 74 K’s and 33 walks.  The 30 year old has pitched in 124 career minor league games ( 101 starts ) with an ERA of 3.60 in 612 1/3 IP.   He features a fast ball ( 88 to 92 mph ), Cutter, Slider, Change Up and Curve Ball.   He was reportedly signed on Tuesday, February 7th and has received a non roster invitation to major league spring training.
