3/29/21 : Grapefruit League Game Twenty-Eight


Game Summary : Blue Jays 13 Phillies 7

JT Realmuto singled to score Andrew McCutchen ( walked & advanced on Bryce Harper single ) in the first inning. Harper scored later in the inning on a throwing error.

Randal Grinchuk hit a sac fly to score a run for Toronto in the second inning.

Adam Haseley led off the second inning with a single, he went to third base on a single by Ronald Torreyes. Haseley scored on a single by Andrew McCutchen.

Brad Miller doubled to score Didi Gregorius ( singled ) in the third inning. Adam Haseley singled to score Miller.

Rowdy Tellez hit a solo home run for the Jays in the fourth inning.

Bryce Harper returned the favor and hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.

Orelvis Martinez hit a two run home run for the Jays in the sixth.

Bryson Stott hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth.

Santiago Espinal hit a three run tater for Toronto in the seventh inning. Orelvis Martinez doubled in their 8th run of the game and scored their ninth on a subsequent single. They scored four more in the inning.

On The Hill :

Zach Eflin ( FB 93-94 ) went five laborious innings allowing two runs on eight hits. He walked none and struck out three. Only one of the runs was earned. 69 pitches - 49 strikes.

Hector Neris ( FB 91-93 ) gave up two runs on two hits in the sixth inning, he struck out two batters.

Jose Alvarado ( FB 98-100 ) struggled with control ... went 2/3 of an inning ... charged with 4 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 1 K ... 27 pitches - 15 strikes

Tyler Carr ( FB 90-92 ) allowed an inherited run to score and yielded a few more ... charged with five runs on five hits and two walks. Tyler didn’t record an out.

JD Hammer ( FB 95-96 ) hit the first batter he faced to force in a run. He struck out the next to end the inning.

Sam Coonrad ( FB 98-100 ) pitched a perfect eighth inning

Neftali Feliz ( FB 92-94 ) pitched a scoreless ninth inning ... 1 H, 1 K

At The Plate :

Bryce Harper had two hits including a home run.

Adam Haseley had a good day ... two hits in three AB’s. Andrew McCutchen walked and singled in three plate appearances.

Doubles : Brad Miller, Darrick Hall

Home Runs : Bryce Harper, Bryson Stott

Defensive Gems :

Darick Hall made a diving snag on a ground ball in the fifth inning and threw the runner out at second base.

Phil-Ins :

Mini Camp players on the roster today included pitchers Tyler Carr, Enyel De Los Santos, JD Hammer and Jakob Hernandez, Catcher Edgar Cabral, Infielders Darick Hall, Luke Williams and Bryson Stott and Outfielders Odubel Herrera and Matt Vierling.

Notes :

Before the game Bryce Harper strolled the left field line to take selfies with kids. Pretty cool 👍

A bit of a scare ... JT was hit on his throwing hand on a batter interference play that ended the Jays third inning.

One observation ... social distancing goes out the window when it rains and fans take shelter in the concourse 😀.

Grapefruit League record finishes at 12-15-1
