3/8/24 : Today in Spring Training

Minor League Camp :

Meetings day, no on-field baseball activities.

Grapefruit League Game Fourteen :

Phillies 6 Astros 3

Clearwater, Florida

The Phillies scored twice in the first inning - Trea Turner singled & stole second, Bryce Harper walked.  JT Realmuto singled to score Turner - Harper and Realmuto executed a double steal.  Bryson Stott grounded out to second to score Harper.

Nick Castellanos reached on a throwing error in the second inning, stole second, went to third on another throwing error and scored on a double by David Dahl.  JT Realmuto singled in the third inning and scored on a Bryson Stott home run.

Bryce Harper doubled in the fifth inning, went to third on a single by JT Realmuto and scored on a single by Bryson Stott.

Houston scored a run in the sixth on a home run by Corey Julks.  They scored twice in the ninth inning on a triple (Quincy Hamilton), double (Jesus Bastidas) and single.

The Astros game day scorecard had six players from their 40 man roster, of those Corey Julks played in 93 major league games last season - none of the others played in more than thirty major league games in 2023.  All six pitchers used in the game are non-roster invitees - only one had pitched previously in the major leagues.  It is a 3 1/2 bus ride from the Astros training site in West Palm Beach on the other coast to Clearwater and this game was the only one on the trip for Houston, odd scheduling for a Grapefruit League contest.

At the Plate : 6 R, 10 H, 1 BB, 10 K’s

JT Realmuto was 3 for 3 with sharply hit singles, he scored a run and knocked in another.  Bryson Stott was 2 for 4 with a single, home run and four RBIs.  David Dahl and Bryce Harper each doubled.
