I usually don’t write about the big league game but on Monday’s there no minor league action to report on so perhaps every now and again I’ll write about the big club.
Phillies 5 ( 3-1) Mets 4 ( 4-2 )
Summary :
Rough first inning for the red pinstripes as the Mets scored three runs in what perhaps could have been an inning where none crossed. Ranger Suarez missed a one hop come-backer that glanced off his glove, third baseman Alec Bohm compounded the issue by throwing the ball past first baseman Rhys Hoskins. If Ranger had fielded it cleanly he likely would have turned a 1-6-3 double play ( Brandon Nimmo was on first base after singling ) but instead coupled with Bohm’s miscue the Mets ended up with runners on second and third base. 🤪. A ground out and two singles later it was 3-0 New York.
The Mets starter Taijuan Walker sat the Phillies down in order in the first two innings - four by strikeout. Walker exited after that with what was reported as right shoulder irritation.
Lefty David Peterson continued the shut out effort for the Mets with four innings of work allowing just 3 hits and 2 walks.
New York scored their fourth run in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Francisco Lindor.
The Phillies scored five runs in the 8th inning ! Alec Bohm walked - went to third on a pinch hit single to right field by Johan Carmago and scored on a fielders choice groundout by Kyle Schwarber. JT Realmuto then hit a two run home run into the left field seats. Nick Castellanos walked and scored all the way from first base on a double down the left field line by Rhys Hoskins. Didi Gregorius doubled to right center field to score Hoskins 💪.
Pitchers :
LH Ranger Suarez - 2 2/3 IP, 3 R, 5 H, 1 BB, 1 K - 63 pitches - 40 strikes - was on a pitch count due to delayed start to ST
RH Nick Nelson - 4 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s - 45 pitches - 26 strikes - excellent - hit 97-98 mph with FB - also great changeup
RH Seranthony Dominguez - 1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K - 18 pitches - 10 strikes - an inherited runner scored - 96-97 FB velo
LH Brad Hand - 1 perfect inning - 2 K’s - 14 pitches - 9 strikes
At the Plate : 8 H, 4 BB, 9 K’s
Alec Bohm walked twice and doubled in three plate appearances. JT Realmuto homered. Rhys Hoskins and Didi Gregorius each doubled. Didi had two hits.
Notes :
Third baseman Alec Bohm usually doesn’t struggle with his throwing ( we’ve watched him a lot and when he makes miscues it’s normally on the glove work side ) but in tonight’s contest he made multiple wild throws to first base on ground balls hit to him ( he was charged with three errors ). To his credit he hung in there and had a very good night at the plate.
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
