4/21/24 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) - Lehigh Valley 7 (9-9) Scranton-Wilkes Barre 4 (13-7)

Moosic, PA - PNC Field


Summary :


Weston Wilson reached on an error in the fourth inning, Esteban Quiroz walked.  Scott Kingery doubled to score two.  Nick Podkul singled to score Kingery.


SWB scored a run in the fourth on a double, ground out and sac fly.


Darick Hall homered in the 5th inning.


SWB scored two runs in the 5th on a double, triple and groundout.


Two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases for Lehigh Valley in the 6th, Darick Hall was hit by a pitch to force in a run.


A double, ground out and sacrifice fly scored a run for SWB in the seventh.


Weston Wilson hit a two run home run in the 8th inning.


At Bat : 7 R, 9 H, 6 BB, 10 K’s


Esteban Quiroz and Matt Kroon each had two hits.  Scott Kingery and Matt Kroon doubled.  Darick Hall and Weston Wilson homered.  Simon Muzziotti drew two walks. Wilson, Hall and Kingery each had two RBIs.


On The Hill : 4 R, 7 H, 4 BB, 5 K’s


Taijuan Walker pitched 6.1 innings, 4 R, 7 H, 3 BB, 1 K - 102 pitches - 59 strikes - he threw six different pitches - predominantly cutters and splitters (59 pitches were cutters & splitters), his sinker sat 88 to 90 mph.  Taylor Lehman went 2/3 of an inning, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K.  Jose Ruiz pitched a perfect inning - 1 K.  Ryan Burr pitched a perfect inning to close - 2 K’s.


Series Stuff 🤔 :


Lehigh Valley won 3 of the 6 games in the series.  Jordan Luplow went 7 for 22 - .318, Esteban Quiroz 7 for 16 (.438) with 4 walks (.545 OBP), David Dahl 6 for 16 (.375), Matt Kroon 5 for 14 (.357), Darick Hall 8 for 20 (.400) with a homer, 4 RBIs and 4 walks (.520 OBP) and Kody Clemens 7 for 21 (.333).  Tyler Phillips made a good start (6 IP, 2 ER).  David Buchanan threw 4 scoreless frames in relief, Michael Mercado made two appearances (one as an opener) and pitched 3.1 innings without yielding a run. Taijuan Walker pitched 11.1 innings in two starts.  Ryan Burr and Andrew Bellatti made two scoreless appearances.


Eastern League ( AA ) - Reading 5 (6-9) Binghamton 4 (6-8)

Binghamton, NY - Mirabito Stadium


Summary :


Caleb Ricketts singled in the second inning, Trevor Schwecke walked. Jim Haley singled to score Ricketts.


Binghamton scored three runs in the third inning on two singles, a double and four walks.


Trevor Schwecke reached on catcher’s interference in the fourth, Bryce Ball reached on an error.  Jim Haley walked.  Robert Moore singled to score two runs.


A walk, ground out and single scored a run for Binghamton in the fifth inning.


Casey Martin tripled in the seventh and scored on a single by Robert Moore.  Moore stole second and later scored on a passed ball.


On The Hill :  4 R, 6 H, 6 BB, 6 K’s


Efrain Contreras pitched 2.2 innings, 3 R, 3 H, 4 BB, 1 K.  Konnor Ash pitched 2 innings - 1 R, 1 H, 2 BB.  Carlos Francisco struck out the only batter he faced and stranded two inherited runners.  Eury Ramos pitched a perfect inning with 1 K.  Tristan Garnett pitched two innings, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K.  Tommy McCollum pitched a perfect ninth inning - 2 K’s


At Bat :  5 R, 6 H, 4 BB, 9 K’s


Robert Moore had two hits (single & triple) and three RBIs.  Gabriel Rincones Jr doubled. Casey Martin tripled.


Series Stuff 🤔 :


Reading won 3 of the 6 games in the series. Carson Taylor was 5 for 15 (.333) with a home run and six RBIs. Gabriel Rincones Jr went 7 for 21 (.333) and posted a .391 OBP.  Kendall Simmons was 3 for 8 (.375) with a home run.  Robinson Pina turned in a good start (5 IP - 1 R) as did Matt Osterberg (5 IP - 2 R).  Tristan Garnett (3.1 IP) and Tommy McCollum (3 IP) made two appearances without yielding an earned run.  Mitch Neunborn and Matt Russell each made two appearances and pitched three effective innings in relief.


South Atlantic League ( High A )  - Brooklyn 5 (7-8) Jersey Shore 2 (8-7)

Lakewood, NJ - ShoreTown Ballpark


Summary :


Otto Kemp singled in the first inning, Hendry Mendez walked.  Jordan Dissin singled to score Kemp.


Brooklyn scored a run in the third inning on three walks and a passed ball.  They added three in the 5th on two walks, a single, hit batter and sacrifice fly.  They scored a run in the 9th on two walks, a wild pitch and sacrifice fly.


On The Hill : 5 R, 4 H, 10 BB, 12 K’s


Braeden Fausnaught pitched four innings - 1 unearned run, 3 H, 4 BB, 5 K’s.  Alex Rao went 1/3 of an inning - 3 R - 2 earned, 1 H, 2 BB.  Cristian Hernandez retired all five batters he faced in 1.2 innings of work, he also stranded an inherited runner.  Andrew Walling went 1.2 innings, 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, 3 K’s.  Gunner Mayer pitched 1.1 innings - 1 R, 0 H, 3 BB, 3 K’s.  Jonathan Petit struck out the only batter he faced and stranded two inherited runners.


At Bat : 2 R, 5 H, 4 BB, 5 K’s


Jordan Dissin had two hits, Erick Brito doubled.


Jersey Shore won 3 of the 6 games in the series.  Zach Arnold was 5 for 11 (.455), Justin Crawford went 6 for 15 (.400), both posted .500 OBP’s.  Otto Kemp was 5 for 15 (.333) with a .375 OBP, Emaarion Boyd (5 for 15 - .333, .412 OBP and made the defensive play of the year to date with a Willie Mays replica over the shoulder catch in center field),  Hendry Mendez (3 for 9 - .333), Bryan Rincon posted a .438 OBP (7 for 16 - 3 hits, 4 walks) and Felix Reyes posted a .389 OBP (7 for 18 - 4 hits, 3 walks).  Jean Cabrera (6 IP), Eiberson Castellano (4 IP) and Starlyn Castillo (3 IP) posted scoreless outings as starters.  Braeden Fausnaught made two starts (10 IP, 0.90 ERA, 14 K’s, 0.90 WHIP.  Jack Dallas (4 IP), Cristian Hernandez (2.2 IP), Nate Karaffa (3 IP), Andrew Walling (2.2 IP) and Jonathan Petit (1.1 IP) made two scoreless appearances in relief.


Florida State League ( Low A )  - Clearwater 5 (10-5) Dunedin 2 (9-6)

Dunedin, FL - TD Ballpark


Summary :


Clearwater scored twice in the fourth inning when Dakota Kotowski hit a Baltimore Chop over the third baseman’s head.  What was amazing is that Avery Owusu-Asiedu (walked) scored all the way from first base - very fast 💨!


Dakota Kotowski walked in the sixth inning, stole second and scored on a double by Diego Gonzalez.


Dunedin scored twice in the sixth inning on two doubles and two singles.


Avery Owusu-Asiedu singled in the 8th inning then stole second and third base.  Diego Gonzalez walked. Trent Farquhar hit a sacrifice fly to score a run.  Pierce Bennett singled to score another.


On The Hill : 2 R, 10 H, 3 BB, 13 K’s


Mavis Graves pitched great - 5 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 9 K’s - really good swing and miss secondaries today.  Hunter Loyd went 2/3 of an inning, 2 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 1 K.  Jaydenn Estanista stranded two inherited runners - he pitched 1.1 innings, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K.  Trent Dillard pitched two innings, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s.


At Bat : 5 R, 7 H, 7 BB, 9 K’s


Avery Owusu-Asiedu and Pierce Bennett each had two hits.  Trent Farquhar and Diego Gonzalez doubled.  Dakota Kotowski posted two RBIs. Keaton Anthony drew four walks.


Series Stuff 🤔 :


Clearwater won 4 of the 6 games in the series.  Aidan Miller was 6 for 16 (.375) in three games played.  Keaton Anthony went 6 for 16 (.375) with 6 RBIs and 5 BB (.545 OBP).  Avery Owusu-Asiedu was 5 for 16 (.313) with 6 walks (.500 OBP) and 3 stolen bases.  On the pitching front George Klassen (5 IP - 1 unearned R) Micah Ottenbreit (5 IP - 0 R) Casey Steward (5.1 IP - 0 R), Mavis Graves (5 IP - 0 R) and Luke Russo (4 IP - 0 R) put up multiple goose eggs in their starts.  Drew Garrett, Saul Teran, Braydon Tucker, Trey Dillard, Jaydenn Estanista and Jose Pena Jr threw multiple innings of effective relief.
