4/26/24 : Today at the Complex - extended Spring Training

The Phillies Player Development Center (PDC) team and the Blue Jays equivalent played a 1 PM eight inning extended spring training (XST) game on Ashburn Field today.


4/26/24 : XST  Phillies 9 XST Blue Jays 3


Summary :


In the first inning Aroon Escobar singled to left field, Eduardo Tait singled to right field.  Raylin Heredia doubled over the center fielders head to score a run.  Jerffson Pena singled to center to score two runs, he then stole second base.  Nolan Beltran singled.  The inning was rolled.


Aroon Escobar singled in the third inning, stole second, went to third on a balk and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Eduardo Tait.


Starlyn Caba reached on a fielders choice in the 5th inning, stole second base and in the ultimate display of flat out hustle scored on a passed ball from second base never hesitating rounding third when he saw the catcher hadn’t retrieved the baseball. 👀 💨


The Blue Jays scored three runs in the 7th on two walks, a single, double and passed ball.  The inning was rolled with two outs.


In the bottom of the 7th Rickardo Perez hit a Baltimore Chop single over the first baseman’s head, Manolfi Jimenez singled on a fly ball that the right fielder lost in the sun and Starlyn Caba singled to right to load the bases. Aroon Escobar walked to force in a run.  Eduardo Tait doubled down the right field line to plate two runs.  A balk call scored a run.


At Bat : 9 R, 10 H, 2 BB, 1 K


Aroon Escobar had two hits (singles), two walks and three runs scored in four plate appearances - he stole a base and had an RBI. Eduardo Tait was 2 for 3 with a single, double, sacrifice fly and three RBIs.  Raylin Heredia doubled and had an RBI.  Starlyn Caba singled, stole a base and scored twice.  Jerffson Pena singled and had two RBIs. Nolan Beltran, Rickardo Perez and Manolfi Jimenez each singled.


Defensive Gems :


Second baseman Nolan Beltran ranged far behind the second base bag in the 4th inning to snag a grounder, he then jump threw to first with his momentum carrying him to left field to throw the runner out!😳.  Catcher Eduardo Tait backhanded a low pitch that same inning and threw a seed to second base to nail an attempted base stealer - good stuff🔥.


On The Hill : 3 R, 6 H, 8 BB, 7 K’s


RH Enrique Segura started and pitched well - 4 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 2 K’s.  LH Beyony Robles pitched an inning - 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, 1 K.  RH Josbel Garcia pitched an inning - 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 0 K’s - touched 95 mph on his FB.  LH Kleyderve Andrade pitched a frame - 2 outs (inning rolled) - 3 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 K’s.  RH Luis Avila (FB 93-96 mph - over the top delivery, big hook) pitched an inning - 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, 2 K’s.


4/25/24 : XST Tigers 5 XST Phillies 1


Yesterday at the Tigers complex in Lakeland the Phillies PDC contingent played a nine inning contest against the Tigers equivalent.


Summary :


The Tigers scored twice in the third inning and single runs in the third, seventh and eighth innings.  The Phillies scored their run in the eighth inning.


At Bat : 1 R, 2 H, 4 BB, 8 K’s


Aroon Escobar went 1 for 3 (double), walked and scored a run.  Yemil Rosario singled and had an RBI.  Outfielder Raylin Heredia played right field in the game - his first game appearance since going on the seven day IL with the Clearwater Threshers.  Catcher Jared Thomas also played in the contest, he’s working his way back from injury as well - is on the seven day IL assigned to the Jersey Shore BlueClaws.


On The Hill : 5 R, 8 H, 5 BB, 10 K’s


RHP Alexis De La Cruz started and pitched four innings (3 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 4 K’s).  RHP Pedro Reyes pitched three innings (0 R, 3 H,  1 BB, 2 K’s) and RHP Luis Gonzalez pitched two innings (2 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 4 K’s).
