4/5/21 : Game Four


Game Summary : Phillies 5 Mets 3


James McCann singled to score Pete Alonso ( walked & advanced to third on a walk and fly ball ) in the fourth inning. After a fly ball that should have been caught fell in center field which loaded the bases, Jacob deGrom singled to score the Mets second run.


The Phillies loaded the bases in the eighth inning with one out on a Brad Miller single, a walk by Andrew McCutchen and a single by Rhys Hoskins. Bryce Harper was hit by a pitch to force in a run. JT Realmuto singled to score pinch runner Roman Quinn ( ran for McCutchen ) and reload the bases. Alec Bohm hit a grounder to third base ... the throw to home plate sailed wide of catcher James McCann allowing two runs to score ! Didi Gregorius then hit a sac fly to right field to score the fifth run. The Phillies sent nine men to the plate in the inning against two Mets relievers ( Trevor May & Aaron Loup ).


Michael Conforto singled to score Kevin Pillar ( singled and went to second on Francisco Lindor ( singled ) for the Mets in the ninth inning.


On The Hill :


Matt Moore ( FB 90-94 ) went 3 1/3 innings and was charged with two runs on four hits and four walks, he struck out four batters. He cruised thru the first two frames but lost control over his pitches afterwards. 74 pitches - 47 strikes.


Brandon Kintzler ( FB 91-93 ) came into a bases loaded one out jam and rolled a 6-4-3 double play grounder to end the inning. He also pitched a scoreless fifth inning ... pitching out of a two on one out jam caused by a throwing error by shortstop Didi Gregorius. Kintzler went 1 2/3 innings - 0 R, 1 H, 1 K.


Sam Coonrad ( FB 96-99 ) tossed a perfect sixth inning with two strikeouts 🔥. He pitched a scoreless seventh inning allowing just a single. Punched out three in total.


Connor Brogdon ( FB 95-96 ) faced three batters in a scoreless eighth inning. He gave up a single but then got a 4-6-3 double play grounder and ended the frame with a strikeout.


Jose Alvarado ( FB 99-102 ) finished it but not without some issues. He gave up a run on three singles and struck out two batters. The last out of the game was a fly ball to right field caught on the warning track 😳. Jose’s first save as a Phillie.


At The Plate :


Jacob deGrom pitched six shutout innings for New York limiting the Phillies to three hits and two walks. He threw just 77 pitches and struck out seven batters.


Rhys Hoskins doubled in the first inning off the center field wall but was thrown out at third base attempting to stretch it into a triple. He later produced a clutch single in the eighth inning.


Bryce Harper walked twice and was hit by a pitch. Andrew McCutchen singled and walked.

Defensive Gems :


Brandon Kintzler snagged a hard one hopper back to the mound hit by Francisco Lindor in the fifth inning ... actually the ball seemed to catch him 🤓. He was all smiles after making the play.


Alec Bohm made a leaping catch of a hard liner off the bat of Lindor to rob him of a hit.


Notes :


The Alternate Camp Phillies played the Alternate Camp Mets today in Allentown. LHP Bailey Falter started and pitched three perfect innings with five strikeouts. Both Scott Kingery and Odubel Herrera had two hits ( single & double ) and Darick Hall hit a two run home run.


Colorado’s Coors Field will be announced as the site of the 2021 All-Star game.


Connor Brogdon gets the win ... he’s now 2-0


Record is now 4-0
