4/7/24 : Minor League Roundup

International League ( AAA ) - Lehigh Valley (3-3) Rochester (3-3)

Rochester, NY - Innovative Field  - Doubleheader


Game One :  Lehigh Valley 4 Rochester 3


Summary :


Juan Yepez homered for Rochester in the first inning.


In the second inning Jordan Luplow singled, Nick Podkul and Cal Stevenson walked to load the bases.  Scott Kingery singled to score Luplow.  Matt Kroon singled to score two runs.


Some shaky fielding by the IronPigs allowed Rochester to post two runs in the bottom of the second inning on a hit, three walks, a fielding error and two more balls that should have been caught.


Lehigh Valley scored x runs in the top of the 7th - Nick Podkul walked, moved to second on a sac bunt, to third on a ground out and scored when Matt Kroon reached on a fielding error.


At Bat : 4 R, 5 H, 6 BB, 3 K’s


Matt Kroon went 2 for 3 (single & double) with three RBIs. Matt has started the season going 5 for 12 (.417) with a double, two walks, a stolen base and four RBIs - his OBP in the early going is .500 and OPS is 1.000


On The Hill : 3 R, 5 H, 5 BB, 5 K’s


Mick Abel went 1.2 innings, 3 R, 2 H, 4 BB, 2 K’s -  60 pitches - 31 strikes. Tyler McKay pitched very well - 2.1 scoreless frames - 2 H, 0 BB, 0 K’s.  Griff McGarry also pitched well - 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s. Andrew Bellatti closed out the win - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 HB, 0 K’s



Game Two :  Rochester 7 Lehigh Valley 4


Summary :


Rochester scored a first inning run on a walk, single and ground out.


In the second inning Jordan Luplow singled and went to third on a double by David Dahl.  Esteban Quiroz singled to score two runs.


Rochester scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning, three on a home run by Alex Call.  They scored an unearned run in the 3rd inning on a single and two fielding errors.  A double, walk and single scored a run for them in the fourth.


Simon Muzziotti walked in the seventh, moved to second on defensive indifference and scored on a single by Cal Stevenson. Stevenson moved to second on defensive indifference and scored on a single by Weston Wilson.


At Bat : 4 R, 6 H, 3 BB, 5 K’s


Jordan Luplow had two hits (singles) and David Dahl doubled.  Esteban Quiroz had a single and two RBIs.


On The Hill : 7 R, 9 H, 4 BB, 6 K’s


Tyler Phillips went 3.2 innings, 7 R - 6 earned, 7 H, 3 BB, 4 K’s.  Austin Brice pitched 1.1 scoreless frames, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K.  Zac Houston pitched an inning - 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K.

Eastern League ( AA ) - Bowie 4 (2-1) Reading 3 (1-2)

Bowie, MD - Prince George’s Stadium


Summary :


Bowie scored twice in the third inning on two doubles, a fly ball advancement and a wild pitch.


Bryce Ball reached on a fielding error in the fifth inning, went to third on a double by Casey Martin and scored on a sac fly by Marcus Lee Sang.


Bowie scored a run in the sixth on a walk and double.


Carlos De La Cruz doubled in the 8th inning and scored on a home run by Carson Taylor.


A misplayed fly ball to right field turned into an RBI triple for Bowie in the bottom of the eighth to help them regain the lead.


On The Hill :  4 R, 7 H, 1 BB, 3 K’s


Robinson Pina went five effective innings, 2 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 0 K’s. Tristan Garnett went 1.2 innings, 1 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 K.  Beau Burrows retired the only batter he faced with a strikeout. Tommy McCollum went an inning - 1 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K.


At Bat : 3 R, 5 H, 5 BB, 10 K’s


Casey Martin and Carlos De La Cruz each doubled, Carson Taylor hit a two run home run.

Summary :


Jersey Shore scored a run in the fourth - Andrick Nava singled and scored on a double by Jordan Dissin.


Aberdeen scored four runs on three singles, a walk and a double in the sixth inning.


On The Hill :  4 R, 6 H, 4 BB, 10 K’s


Estibenzon Jimenez was strong  in his BlueClaws debut going 5.1 innings, 2 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 5 K’s - change up was really good - 77 pitches - 54 strikes - the young man can pitch. Two inherited runners scored in the 6th inning against Jonathan Petit - he went 2/3 of an inning - 2 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K.  Mason Ronan pitched a scoreless frame - 0 H, 2 BB, 2 K’s.  Alex Rao pitched an inning, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K.  Nathan Karaffa pitched a perfect inning - 1 K.


At Bat : 1 R, 7 H, 4 BB, 10 K’s


Hendry Mendez had two hits (singles). Jordan Dissin doubled.

Summary :


Bradenton scored a run in the third inning on two walks and a throwing error.  They scored a run in the fifth on two walks, a passed ball, wild pitch and single.


The Mauraders scored a run in the seventh on a walk, single, wild pitch and ground out.  They added a run in the eighth on a walk and double.


On The Hill : 4 R, 8 H, 6 BB,8 K’s


Mavis Graves started and pitched well - 4 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 3 K’s (FB - 92-95 mph) in his Threshers’s debut.   Trey Dillard went one inning - 1 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 1 HB, 1 K.   Casey Steward went two innings - 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s. Cristian Hernandez went one inning - 1 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K.


At Bat : 0 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 10 K’s


Otto Kemp doubled.


Defensive Gems :


Third baseman Otto Kemp made a couple nice plays on slow rollers, he fielding them and threw runners out at first base in a nick of time!

Dakota Kotowski hit the first Thresher home run of the season in Saturday’s game. George Klassenequaled last season’s mark for most strikeouts by a starter with nine.  He carried a perfect game bid until the first batter of the fifth inning.  The Threshers have now won each of the last four series against Bradenton dating back to 2023.  Three of those four series were at LECOM Park.  Kehden Hettiger’shome run last night was his first as a professional.  Everyone in the starting lineup scored or drove in at least one run.”  - Josh Sperber - Clearwater Threshers Broadcaster
