All of the affiliated clubs were off today.


Player Development Center Training - Carpenter Complex


Three pitchers threw side bullpen sessions, pitchers who threw today - Daniel Mejia, Enrique Segura and Christopher Soriano.


Six additional players arrived from the Dominican Training Complex today to participate in training with the Clearwater Player Development Center group.


The following players are added to the Player Development Center roster.


RHP Luis Gomez - 21 years old from Santa Teresa del Tuy, Venezuela.  He was signed 7/14/17 and has pitched four seasons in the Dominican Summer League posting an overall 2.76 ERA in 40 games (104 1/3 IP).  Matt Winkleman tracks the Phillies minor league pitchers - on his spreadsheet Gomez is listed as having shown a fastball (range from 86 to 92 mph), changeup, slider and curve.


RHP Fernando Ortega - 21 years old from Santiago, Dominican Republic. He was signed 7/6/18 and has pitched three seasons in the Dominican Summer League posting a 3.62 ERA in 36 games (22 starts) in 112 innings pitched. On Matt’s spreadsheet he’s shown as throwing a fastball (88 to 93 mph), changeup and curve.


RHP Jesus Querales - 20 years old from Barinas, Venezuela.  He was signed 7/2/19 and has pitched two seasons in the Dominican Summer League posting a 1.50 ERA in 34 games (48 IP) with 15 saves in 17 chances and made the DSL All-Star team in 2022 posting a 1.64 ERA in 15 appearances ( 22 IP ) converting 7 of 8 save opportunities ( 28 K’s, 9 BB ) for Phillies Red.  He was added to the Phillies White roster for the playoffs and pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings in 3 appearances - one save - helping Team White to the Dominican League championship.   On Matt’s spreadsheet he’s shown as throwing a fastball (90 to 92 mph), change up and slider.


C Jose Colmenarez - 20 years old from Mariara, Venezuela.  He was signed 7/2/19 and has played two seasons in the Dominican Summer League posting a .398 on base percentage in 50 games (127 plate appearances).   Jose played for the Phillies Red team last season, was on Phillies White the year before.


C Jorge Mendez - 19 years old from Maracay, Venezuela.  He was signed 8/2/19 and has played two seasons in the Dominican Summer League posting a .325 batting average and .400 OBP in 63 games (108 plate appearances).  Last season in 34 games for Phillies Red he hit .400 in 90 AB’s with 8 doubles, a home run and 19 RBIs. He had a .491 OBP and 1.013 OPS.


OF Santiago Torres - 20 years old from Barquisimeto, Venezuela.  He was signed 7/2/19 and has played two seasons in the Dominican Summer League posting a .284 OBP in 344 plate appearances.  Santiago has played in 91 games the past two seasons for Phillies Red and has 7 doubles, 9 triples and a home run with 40 RBIs.


Both Drew Ellis and Garrett Whitley headed north - destination roster to be announced soon.  RHP Josh Bortka has been transferred to the Player Development Center from the Clearwater Threshers.

Major League News :


 Phillies outfielder Cristian Pache today underwent a right knee lateral meniscectomy performed by Dr. Steve Cohen in Philadelphia, PA.   The timeline for recovery is four to six weeks.


Dominican Summer League Spring Training :


The Phillies Red and Phillies White teams opened spring training games today.


Rockies (ROC) 5 Phillies Red 1


Manolfi Jimenez had two singles, Jaeden Calderon and Neify Rosario each singled, the team was held to four hits.  Five pitchers threw in the game for the Phillies, an inning apiece - Claudio Gatier, Rainy Mota, Ramon Reyes, Eduardo Fernandez and Luis Martinez.


Phillies White 9 Rockies (COL) 5


Starlyn Caba had four hits, two RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base in five AB’s.  Aroon Escobar was 2 for 3 with a grand slam home run. Jerffson Peña homered. Leny Carela doubled in two AB’s, had an RBI and scored a run.  Angel Mata, Yhoan Escalona, Romel Mendez and Jose Marchan each singled.  Five pitchers threw an inning each - Alexis De La Cruz, Luis Avila, Angel Liranzo, Gregory Lebron and Cristian Diaz.
