5/10/24 : Minor League Roundup


( AAA ) - Syracuse 8 (21-14) Lehigh Valley 3 (12-22)

Allentown, PA - Coca-Cola Park


Summary :


Cold and wet conditions in a game that was initially delayed and a good bit of which was played in a steady rainfall.


Simon Muzziotti doubled in the 2nd inning, he advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Scott Kingery.


Two walks, a single and a walk scored a run for Syracuse in the third inning.  A fielders choice/throwing error scored another.


Jim Haley doubled in the third inning, he scored on a home run by Weston Wilson.


Syracuse scored a run in the seventh on a double, single and sacrifice fly.  Another run scored on a double.


Trayce Thompson homered to lead off the 8th inning for Syracuse. A walk and double scored another run.


Two walks and a single loaded the bases for Syracuse in the 9th inning. Two walks forced in two runs.


At Bat : 3 R, 6 H, 4 BB, 11 K’s


Simon Muzziotti had two hits (single & double).  Jordan Luplow also had two hits (singles).  Jim Haley doubled.  Weston Wilson homered.


On The Hill : 8 R, 10 H, 10 BB, 5 K’s


Best outing of the season thus far for Mick Abel - he pitched 5.2 innings, 2 R, 4 H, 5 BB , 4 K’s - 100 pitches - 58 strikes - 56 four seamers (93 to 97 mph), 17 sinkers (93-96 mph), 12 sliders, 7 change ups and 8 curve balls - good stuff!  Nick Nelson pitched 1.1 innings - 2 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 0 K’s - stranded two inherited runners.  Andrew Bellatti pitched an inning - 2 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 0 K’s.  Beau Burrows - 1 IP, 2 R, 1 H, 4 BB, 1 K.

David Dahl has been an on-base machine to start the season for the 'Pigs. He started the year by reaching base in 14 consecutive games with a 12-game hitting streak to boot as well). He has not gone back-to-back games without reaching base this season. In total, he's reached in 20 of 23 games. - Media notes

After a very quiet start to the 2024 season, Carlos De La Cruz broke out in a big way the last two nights. After a double off the wall on Wednesday, he broke through with his first and second home runs of the season on Thursday night.  Overall, De La Cruz had two runs scored and three RBI’s in the win. It marked the third multi-homer game of his career. It was also the first time a R-Phils hit a home run in back-to-back at-bats since Nick Warddid it on Aug. 10, 2023 at New Hampshire. Thursday night also marked the third instance this season where a Fightin Phil hit two home runs in a game. - Media notes

Summary :


Wilmington scored three runs in the first inning on two singles, a double and two errors.


Emaarion Boyd and Justin Crawford singled in the bottom of the first, Otto Kemp walked.  Boyd scored on a ground out by Leandro Pineda.  Felix Reyes singled to score Crawford.


Justin Crawford singled in the third inning, Otto Kemp walked.  A wild pitch moved both runners up.  Leandro Pineda hit a sacrifice fly to score Crawford.  Erick Brito singled to score Kemp.


In the fourth inning Jordan Dissin walked, Cade Fergus singled and Emaarion Boyd walked.  Justin Crawford hit a sacrifice fly to score Dissin.  Otto Kemp hit a ground rule double to score a run.  Leandro Pineda reached on a fielding error, Boyd scored.


Ninth win in a row for Jersey Shore!

Eiberson Castellano pitched five innings - 3 R - 1 earned, 5 H, 1 BB, 1 K - 77 pitches - 49 strikes.  Andrew Baker threw a perfect inning - 2 K’s - 13 pitches - 9 strikes.  Benyony Robles pitched a scoreless inning - 0 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s.  Gunner Mayer pitched two innings, 0 R,  0 H, 1 BB, 5 K’s.


At Bat : 7 R, 11 H, 6 BB, 2 K’s


Justin Crawford and Cade Fergus each had two hits.  Jordan Dissin and Otto Kemp each doubled.  Crawford and Emaarion Boyd scored twice, Leandro Pineda posted two RBIs.  Kemp drew two walks.

Leandro Pineda went 3-3 on Wednesday (including the tie-breaking home run) and 2-2 on Thursday.  Coming into tonight’s game he is 17-37 and has hit safely in his last 10 games, raising his average from .196 to .307 (it’s the second-longest hitting streak BlueClaw this year behind Justin Crawford’s 11 game streak).  Pineda has three home runs this year, all at ShoreTown Ballpark. He blasted nine homers with the BlueClaws last year, hitting .243 (.298 in the second half with an .852 OPS and .193 in the first half with a .607 OPS).

Summary :


The Tigers scored four runs in the first inning on a couple of two run home runs (Nomar Fana and Luis Santana).


Jerffson Peña walked in the second, Diego Gonzalez doubled.  They both scored on a single by Yemal Flores.


Two walks, a fielders choice and a single scored two Tigers runs in the bottom of the second.  The Tigers scored four runs in the fifth inning including two on a home run by Jesus Machado.


Leonardo Rondon reached on an error in the seventh, he advanced on a single by Ezra Farmer and scored on a double by Yemal Flores.   Farmer scored on a ground out by Aroon Escobar.


Rickardo Perez singled in the 8th,  Jerffson Peña was hit by a pitch. Leonardo Rondon singled to score Perez.  Peña advanced to third on a ground out and then scored on a balk.


On The Hill : 10 R, 9 H, 6 BB, 8 K’s


Alexis De La Cruz started and pitched two innings -  6 R, 4 H, 4 BB, 2 K’s. Luis Gonzalez went 3.2 innings - 4 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 4 K’s.  Juan Amarante pitched 1.1 innings perfect innings - 2 K’s.  Luis Avila pitched an inning - 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 K’s.


At Bat : 6 R, 9 H, 5 BB, 10 K’s


Yemal Flores had two hits (single & double) and three RBIs.  Diego Gonzalez doubled.
